Guessing this must be related to the release of RE2 remake (which will still be using Denuvo).

Yea its no coincidence that not long after RE2 remake is released they drop Denuvo for RE7, guess we will not get the same for RE2 remake until the rumored RE3 remake drops lol.

Good on Capcom, no need to keep RE7 Denuvo when it has been cracked since forever, also the removal itself will build some good will from people and make them more confident in newer Resident Evil titles (that those titles might drop Denuvo in the future as well).

Even the Gold edition has been cracked. So there is nothing left for them to protect. Thus they removed it.
But this is good. Removing denuvo means once steam dies, the game can still be preserved so that people can play it if they want. Some games which were never cracked and was removed from digital stores/ physical copy production stopped will get lost forever in the future [unless of course someone manages to do something about those games like what happened with NFS World].

This is good news for me as I have yet to play the game. so once I finally get it, the performance will be better than what was estimated for my poor aging GTX 960

If you think about it there really is no reason for them to put money into Denuvo. It's not hurting anyone except modders. People who want to pirate the game already did and cracked Denuvo about six days, probably less, after RE2 released. What piracy exactly is Denuvo stopping? Just seems so pointless.

Pretty cool honestly, recently on DMCV it was confirmed that denuvo DID affected perfomancer, so it does harm the consumer.

Denuvo did its job at first when it first came out, it stopped all games that had it from being pirated for a few months until crackers finally figured out how to reverse engineer it, now its completely pointless, even after numerous updates to their formula people always find ways to crack it. RE2 Remake was cracked the day after its release, DMC5 was also cracked a day after its release. Theres no point in it, it only hurts the consumers (Like any DRM has always done)

Only the first few games got benefited from it. Game's like Fifa 15 and 16 still doesn't have a proper crack that works on all pcs. So in that sense Denuvo succeeded.
What I don't understand is why devs still waste their money on using Denuvo if it doesn't help.
But my biggest fear is that devs might come up with more horrible drm. Like "Always online" to be able to play the game, which will hurt legimate users in the end. Games like PES 18, 19 have an always online DRM, so legit usrs on steam can't even play their game without internet whereas cracked version is fully playable online. But if the always online drm is like NFS 2015, then people are completely screwed. Not only it's almost impossible to crack, but if devs decide to shut down their servers, you won't be even able to start the game anymore.
But hopefully that won't happen.
