www.engadget.com/2018/09/18/capcom-closes-vancouver-studio-dead-rising/Video game publisher Capcom is shutting down its Vancouver studio and around 158 employees will be let go. The company told Variety that operations were suspended Tuesday and a skeleton crew would remain on board until January in order to finalize the closure. "Capcom has been focused on increasing the efficiency and growth of its game development operations," a spokesperson told Variety. "To support this objective, new R&D facilities and annual hiring have been underway at the Osaka headquarters. In consideration of this process, as a result of reviewing titles in development at Capcom Vancouver, Capcom has decided to cancel the development projects at this studio and will concentrate development of major titles in Japan."
Capcom Vancouver, known for its Dead Rising series, was hit with layoffs earlier this year as well. While the company confirmed that a number of titles were now cancelled, it didn't say what plans it had for Dead Rising.
"We appreciate the hard work and contributions of all the studio team members in creating unforgettable gameplay experiences for the Dead Rising series and Puzzle Fighter," Capcom said.i think it was better to give them another mission to do instead of shutting down the studio they could work on another remake and release their projects with a period of time next to the japan studio maybe re3 or code veronica or dino crisis or... and i believe that they are capable to do it very well

I kinda expected this after the fact that Dead Rising 3 and 4 got slated and undersold.

As a huge fan of the Dead Rising series this is disappointing but to be honest not a surprise.
Dead Rising 3 and 4 both lacked the charm of Dead Rising 1 and 2, like take for instance how each one removed series staple elements such as Dead Rising 3 removing malls and Dead Rising 4 removing psychopaths, in each game I played I remember having fun but not near the same level of feel and fun I had with the first 2 and apparently they just can't seem to get their stuff together lol, I also hated how Dead Rising 4 also did not have T.J. Rotolo reprise his role, he is the iconic voice of Frank West and it was so glaring to not hear him say "FANTASTIC" in the game.
Well hopefully Capcom find a new studio to take over the Dead Rising IP rather than letting it die off since it really is a fantastic IP, really like Resident Evil it just has to get "back to its roots" to truly be great again.

It is a very sad news indeed... Poor guys, hopefully they'll find another job quickly. Like seda said, they could have let them resurrect old IP's like Dino Crisis or Onimusha among other. I do wonder if the XBOX/Microsoft deals they had for DR2 dlcs, 3 and 4 has something to do with this situation. Dead Rising 3 and 4 both lacked the charm of Dead Rising 1 and 2, like take for instance how each one removed series staple elements such as Dead Rising 3 removing malls and Dead Rising 4 removing psychopaths. To be fair with DR3, after the release of 2 and Off the Record everyone was asking for a much larger playground in the next major installment, and that's what Capcom Vancouver actually did. Also, DR2's location was technically a Las Vegas-like city. But I get what you mean! The major difference between DR1,2/OTR and DR3,4 is that the location in the former were so memorable while the latter aren't. I guess it's probably due to the scale of the playgrounds: the smaller, the better. As a player, it is much easier to soak up the atmosphere and as a developper you can make sure the locations have a true identity. Thankfully, DR3 ended up being an alright game (imo) despite Nick's lack of charisma and the more than questionable design they went for some of the psychos. I completely agree with you regarding DR4 though. So many things that were iconic in the former games were either scrapped or butchered. Frank being on the top of the list... His personality, his voice and his design were atrocious. Willamette and other former characters were barely recognisable as well, not to mention the total lack of balance between seriousness/horror and humour unlike the former installments. Besides, DR4 should have NEVER existed in the first place anyway. DR3 could have been the perfect conclusion to the franchise. Well hopefully Capcom find a new studio to take over the Dead Rising IP rather than letting it die off since it really is a fantastic IP, really like Resident Evil it just has to get "back to its roots" to truly be great again. Isn't it what they tried to do with DR4? I mean, bringing back Frank West in Willamette to investigate a zombie outbreak totally sounds like it. It's a shame that the same team which made solid sequels messed up that bad. Some companies should really learn that it is sometimes better to stop milking their franchises by concluding them appropriately instead of letting them die or destroying them. The only thing I'd love to see at this point is a prequel occuring in Santa Cabeza and that's it, no more Dead Rising (unless they decide to port DR2 dlcs and DR3+dlcs on PC/PS4).

DR2 was great, but it was all downhill from there: DR3 was just alright while DR4 was terrible (also it was obvious from the studio director's interviews they were making all the wrong choices there, so the game had zero chances to be good from the start). Back in the day Keiji Inafune pushed for outsourcing and general westernisation of Capcom, which failed with Bionic Commando, failed with Lost Planet 3, failed with Dark Void and failed with DmC. DR2 really was the only big success of his whole outsourcing strategy, so after Inafune's departure from Capcom (plus after Inafune proved himself to be a failure on his own with Mighty No. 9) and after DR2 sequels went bad, there really is no incentive for Capcom to hold onto the remains of their failed westernisation experiment when they are currently having great success producing games internally in Japan. It only makes sense to cut losses here.
