I have always been saying how lost CAPCOM is when it comes to this series. Maybe the developers aren't very fluent in English because if they understood that we wanted something like this (or Umbrella Corps for that matter) then I don't know what to say. They are simply foolish and are irresponsible, they have been trashing over their series for years, ever since the beginning of the end that was RE4. Also VR is literally the most dumb sounding piece of tech ever. Seriously why would I want to get migraines from video screens placed directly on my eyes? It doesn't sound very healthy, nor functional. These unnecessary tech trends need to go away. So I just woke up and was convinced "Hey maybe RE7 was just a fever dream I had" but no, it's very real. I love your posts.

Some Q&A.
Edit. What they basically said: -No QTEs. -It's a different direction and they compared how 1-3 switched to 4-6. -They're not throwing away RE storyline -They're not going 100% in the supernatural (even though the trailer and the demo are) direction -The game is going to be tied around this house/mansion and surrounding areas -There will be more than one video tapes and audio logs -For the RE fans they're pulling the "it will make sense later" when asked how does this tie with the main story -I guess I missed the beginning, but some other users report that the main RE cast isn't included in this title. I did catch that they wanted to make the person (you) vulnerable and not a superhero.

I've been waiting to post because I wanted all of this to really sink in rather than posting a half baked decision about it. I sadly have to say I am very disappointed in this game. I am all for new ideas and trying to do something different, I am a 3rd person over the shoulder shooter junkie if there ever was one but let's face it, There is now (Re4,Re5,Re6,Rev1,Rev2,ReOrc,Re:Merc 3ds) all over the shoulder shooters so I don't really blame them for trying to change it up, I'm just trying to look it it from there perspective. After the massive hate that Re6 got, you can't really blame them for wanting to step away from it, though I don't really personally agree with it. Here is what I REALLY have an issue with. If you were to give this game a different tittle, you seriously would never know the difference that it was ever suppose to be a RE game. It just screams Silent Hill and I also get a hit of The Evil Within vibes going on, and it's really a kick in the ass to all of us that they dont even bother to use any of the characters from RE and there is how many of them? lol Personally, I am shocked they haven't bothered to basically make Resident Evil 4 2.0 , It's an easy cash grab that people would throw their wallets at. If they were to make Resident Evil 7 feature Leon again in a single player campaign and have it play and feel alot like Re4 with just an updated combat system (Like Revelations 2) I think people would buy the living hell out of it, especially if it featured a co-op extra content modes like Mercenaries or Raid mode, or something new all together. I am hoping this is what Resident Evil 2 Remake will turn into, espeically after the up-roar people are having over Re7. Again, I am all for new ideas and trying to take a game franchise that's been around for 20+ years in new directions, but it's a pretty bad idea to do it to the MAIN game series. This seems like it should be a Resident Evil Survivor Reboot that's made separate all together. Such a shame capcom you really let us down

Hey at least in Survivor you could shoot a zombie in the head 1 minute into gameplay. Like many, many different users across different boards said this game does not feature RE identity.

I realize now that the only reason they greenlit a RE2 remake AND announced it is because they knew full well this would alienate pretty much 90% of RE fans. Unfortunately, since I can see now that they straight up don't care about the fanbase, I don't think I'll buy the RE2 remake.

There are so many ways of playing as a main character and not being a super hero. The protagonist could be injured, or be very limited with hand to hand, since you're in a house you can't really go all Bruce Lee, depending on the space.
The zombies could be like Crimson Heads or have a terrible grab like Outbreak and Alien Isolation, that is impossible to get out of. The problem is RE4 introduced Leon with his suplexes and roundhouse kicks and flips, and so Re5 and RE6 continued with that Kung Fu stuff but they could just not. I mean martial arts requires practice and if you don't practice, you can get very rusty.
They made Wesker go from Psychopathic Genius to moronic comic villain, so whose to say the protagonists didn't give up on hand to hand? Such stupid logic these developers have. Basically I really want my Jill Jill.

Wow, that looks horrible. I think it would be great if "she" meant Jill too, Buschy, but yikes this is a bad start! I hope future promotionals do a better job of making it look good.

I actually think this looks OK.
Let me run through some checkpoints...
creepy old house/mansion = check puzzles = check familiar characters = grrrrr jump scares = check story that has me intrigued = check no weapons so far = check (I like that we were limited in older games) 1st person = grrrrr (But likely looks nuts with VR)
Not completely sold, but it actually looks promising to me Yes, it looks REALLY different, but different can be a good thing. Franchise was getting stale.

This seems like it should be a Resident Evil Survivor Reboot that's made separate all together. Such a shame capcom you really let us down That is what I was thinking as well, if anything this game could have been a Resident Evil survivor reboot that introduced a new story and new takes on established characters (maybe have a new version of Ark Thompson as protagonist), I feel that could have possibly worked out better. But I still may give this a shot, 2 of my main fears for the game has been squashed such as it IS survival horror and it IS within the continuity and not a reboot to the series story, but other than those 2 things I can't find anything else that I like about this as a Resident Evil game at the moment, perhaps that will change with more footage and details in the future, they better add a heck of a lot of Resident Evil elements and easter eggs to this game to kinda offset the fact that it does not look like one.

Agreed. As I mentioned in another thread the Resident Evil franchise basically went extreme action movie after a point. And not in a fun way either. A lot of the direction Resident Evil went after a point just kinda felt...wrong. There was a bit of a lingering question I've had after a point which I was curious if it'd ever be touched upon. If it was touched upon in an Umbrella Chronicles game then I missed it but considering the first Resident Evil's plot was uncovering Umbrella's plot to create bio weapons and such I eventually began to ask this particular question, who were these bio weapons supposed to be used on to begin with? Since they were making weapons for war essentially, who were they trying to go to war against? I think there's a bit more of a unique plot to follow there than it is go...whatever the heck the route we're going now.
And as I also said in another post, just recently, I wouldn't be at all surprised if they up and cancel the Resident Evil 2 remake. Not that I'd care much at this point. What with Claire's design being a bit ruined in my opinion, I don't wanna play as her running around looking like that. I really miss the older Resident Evil games...

What with Claire's design being a bit ruined in my opinion, I don't wanna play as her running around looking like that. I really miss the older Resident Evil games... HIGHLY doubt even Capcom would go that far as to cancel RE2 remake, that would be a perfect way to effectively throw away the vast majority of their longtime consumers in the long run who are already on edge with games like Umbrella Corps and RE7 looking they way they do now, most fans have already said they still have hope for the series within the RE2 remake and are just going to hold out for that instead, If Capcom where to cancel that it would be a very large uproar that will have a ripple effect that I'm sure Capcom wouldn't even want to see. And about Claire's design, are you referring to Revelations 2? She was a lot older in that game, there is a good chance that she will not look like that within RE2 remake where she is young. Another thing I just saw about RE7 is that it will not have QTEs, that is another thing it has going for it.

I know it'd be a royally stupid move buuuut they have done some colossally stupid things before. I'm just bracing myself for the worst case scenario. But as for Claire's design, I shoulda clarified. my fault. I'm referring to the appearance of giving her the stupid ultra low midriff and blue shorts and cowgirl boots. It looks really really really stupid to me as I enjoy her original Resident Evil 2 much better. I'm not entirely a fan of Claire's pants in Code Veronica but this...BLEH!

Well that looks... bad? It's like someone had a test project lying around on their computer and decided to turn it into a game, and Capcom being as uncreative and cheap as they are, then decided "Let's market this as RE7."
It's basically just Outlast in a house. I don't buy the "You'll see later!" promises, just seems like a way for people to buy the game and get disappointed.
But that's just it, isn't it? Capcom isn't a company of games; it's a company of disappointment and re-releases.
Can't wait for my distant relatives to play RE7 in 2020, after it's been re-released 60 times on every console.
