Maybe the VR game was a spinoff they were making and decided put it as a numbered installment to help it with the sales. O.o Whatever, I'm also very puzzle about this change, I know that there are fans who were asking horror oriented game, but I don't see how this can archieve better profit than the last numbered installments. Is there any other project in Capcom development that fit more to the popular tastes? (an AAA spin off?) Well, nothing like that announced nor hinted, so till then, nothing more can be done.
(¿And what will happens with the RE.net? I don't see a bright future... XD )

Yeah, I could easily see this game review well. The press have been very vocal complaining about the lack of horror in recent RE titles, so I could see them go "Finally RE goes back to its roots!" despite the game not looking or playing anything like any RE title.

I think people in general tend to overestimate P.T. clones selling potential. Sure, indie first person horror games sell like hot cakes as for indie titles, yet so far I can't recall a single instance of this transfering into AAA space. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Alien: Isolation must be the only modern AAA first person hide and seek horror on the market and that only sold 2.11 millions of copies according to SEGA which was the bare minimum they needed to return their investments. Capcom now want RE7 to sell 4 millions. I say good luck with that.

So, I see I'm in the minority that liked it.
What would you guys have liked as RE7? I mean third person shooter (Umbrella corps), Over the shoulder RE3.5 like, Fixed camera REmake/Zero like? Who would you have liked to be the main character? What could've been the story?.
I'm just curious, I'm not trying to make you like it or anything; it's just that I'd lost interest in main (numbered) RE games ever since RE6 action approach.

So many disappointments in this year. First Umbrella Corps, now RE7. I expected anything from RE7, but not this. I was so excited when turned on and started watching the trailer, to identify the main characters and then discuss about the story and characters, but after seeing the full version, I was shocked. What is this? Resident Outlast Hill the game?
I understand that maybe they wanted to go back to horror basics and make the game more frightening, but I hate the first-person view. Numbered parts never not used this view, why now? Capcom sold himself for VR, I am sure that this is done for great expectation of him. Seriously, if you remove RE name from the trailer, any player will tell you that it's a new game in the series Silent Hill, PT, Outlast.
Again and again disappointed. Now I not wait this game, do not think I'll buy it.

I would have been okay with something like many of the previous games. A new game in the style of REmake, RE5, or RE6 is something I would have been all for. I also would have been okay with something entirely new but still making it feel like an RE title (like RE4 did). My personal ideal would be a mercenaries game, and I'm now bummed out we have nothing which is similar to mercenaries. I think they literally did everything I did not want them to do with RE7. They made it a pure horror title (I've never been a horror fan. I've always liked RE because they're fun games to play, and they just happened to be labeled as horror but they were always bad at it), they basically took another game by another company as template (the demo really feels like they played PT and said to themselves they should clone that), and so far there's zero ties to previous RE titles (no returning mechanics, no returning characters or links to existing story threads). So yeah, I'm skipping this one. And if this is the direction of the series moving forward, I'm out of the series altogether.

(¿And what will happens with the RE.net? I don't see a bright future... XD ) There were sign of it dying when RE0 wasn't included in the support game list. After that 20th Anniversary re-releases weren't included either. Yeah, I could easily see this game review well. The press have been very vocal complaining about the lack of horror in recent RE titles, so I could see them go "Finally RE goes back to its roots!" despite the game not looking or playing anything like any RE title. It's disappointing that there are people that think and preach that this is the RE that should've been/what it needs. I have nothing against this title, but this is clearly not RE (so far). So, I see I'm in the minority that liked it. What would you guys have liked as RE7? I mean third person shooter (Umbrella corps), Over the shoulder RE3.5 like, Fixed camera REmake/Zero like? I'm just curious, I'm not trying to make you like it or anything; it's just that I'd lost interest in main (numbered) RE games ever since RE6 action approach. It's not a bad concept, it can fit in the RE universe, but it doesn't look like it belongs in the main franchise. Most people I know are disappointed by either that it's firs person/gimmick mode or that it has none of the characters we know or the past events we can relate to. RE franchise has built a rather rich character roster and so far all of the achievements of the series are swept under the rug. Edit1. Also lack of jolly cooperation. I personally would like Revelations-styled triple A experience. Focus on horror worked nicely there, especially in 2 and it played closely to 4 (which I personally don't like), I think with some polish it could surpass it. But now we're left with this vague trailer/demo and promises of RE2make and Revelations 3 sometimes in the future. Edit 2. I would have been okay with something like many of the previous games. A new game in the style of REmake, RE5, or RE6 is something I would have been all for. I also would have been okay with something entirely new but still making it feel like an RE title (like RE4 did). So yeah, I'm skipping this one. And if this is the direction of the series moving forward, I'm out of the series altogether. That is true. At this point I was ready to swallow a RE title that would play like any previous title, be it 4 or 1 or 6. It wouldn't matter because it would be RE and it would have RE characters and story in it. This has nothing of that so far.

Semi-open world structure (think Tomb Raider Reboot). 2). RE6 controls and combat with some small tweaks and improvements. Also tougher enemies to counter what main characters are capable of. 3). Two campaigns, a more action-oriented co-op one with Jill and Jake plus a more horror oriented single played one with Sherry. 4). RE5 inventory across the board except for Sherry's campaign that would exclusively use RE4 inventory. Also add RE6 tablet mechanics on top of both. 5). Lots and lots of characters and maps for Mercenaries. 6). No QTEs whatsoever. It would have been glorious.

If RE7 truly is first person... Bring on RE8.

I really want to be excited going into the trailer and at the beginning when the man on the phone said "she's back" i though oh my god its happening Jills back (Don't know why i though that it was her) and even though i thought that the trailer was meh i downloaded the demo and waited to play that before making any real judgment. I finished it and apparently if you go through it more than once small things change, mostly the ending is a tad different and honestly as much as i thought this looks like and plays like a good game i had no interest in replaying the demo unlike i did with RE6 (And i think that's a good action game but not a RE one) i'm willing to give it a go when it comes out just like i am with Umbrella Corps im just not hyped for the game at all and really i'm more disappointed than anything else.

Everybody here, you can't judge them for what they did/are doing, but thats how it goes, the games are going worse (with everything) and better visually, i guess why it couldn't be reversed Anyway there will always be some time when they will run out of ideas LOL Well it's truely sad to see them falling deep into the hole. P.s i agree with qperok they should instead implent something from the previous releases

"She's back" could also be a reference to Alex Wesker and this whole game is her reenacting some Kafkaesque shenanigan, but still, if that is the case then at least throw Jake in there if you're doing something with family.
Yeah I agree with everyone who is not happy with this first impression. I think this is really a polarizing game for sure. Alien Isolation was a successful FPS horror because it stuck to its source material (Alien 1978) and didn't try to be anything new or different from what it was born out of. RE6 was still to the RE universe but threw subtle new things for better or for worse, whereas REVII makes no apparent connection to RE what so ever and that is extremely off putting. I mean it doesn't have to be another movie like RE5 & RE6, but give us something that says "Resident Evil" Even playing as Ashley would be a stronger connection to RE.

I feel Revelations 2 was the gametype they should have stuck with and just added more emphasis on horror and less on action but still keep the special modes like Raid Mode and Mercenaries mode for those who love action.
They did not have to go overboard and just change so much about it, if they wanted a horror Resident Evil game it was entirely possible to go about it another way and still win most of the fans over.

If it's set in 2017 then she'd be 16. Also Jake is supposed to be fighting ISIS Napads. Every person I've talked to say the same thing. This isn't what we wanted.

I was just speculating a theory, I mean give or take 4 years, Alex could be a move believable villain. There are so pretty evil 16 year-olds out there though. This not what I wanted either, but since when has Capcom followed what their fans would have wanted?!
