Most of the games coming out were either really shit, or falling behind the expectations they were pushed to establish. Arkham Knight was a mess as both a game and a port, MGS V suffered from terrible ammounts of shitty decisions by both Konami and Kojimbo, and leaked Fallout 4 footage looks abysmal. Not to say no good games came out at all. Witcher 3 for one was really good, but other than that, AAA-production was nothing but epic trailers and bought reviews resulting in underwhelming blunders, while most of the neat and alright games went under the radar. Of course, there is more games to come out this year, but right now the whole situation seems pretty bleak.
Anyone feels the same way?

This thread it's early. You couldn't wait till the end of the year could you?
Well Fallout 4 will be a blast. Everyone is expecting to be. (Give a reason why not to?)
DMC 4 SE was spectacular with Vergil being op as hell. Still had great fun times.
Witcher 3 was epic.
Episodic games were really great. (Game of Thrones, Tales from the Borderlands, Life is Epic) Gave a really nice emotional touch over the boring "action" games genre.
And i'm still hyped for Just Cause 3. Gonna fly the shit out of those triple hooked planes.

Abysmal lypsinc Disgusting dialogue system Horrendous voice over Press X to crit Ass animations 360-tier graphics No more skills, perks are mostly "+20% to this and that" Bad AI With that much apparent even know, the ammount of shit thats about to pop out once the full game gets in people's hands can reach critical ammounts. DMC4SE was a blast, but It's mostly the same game from 2008. Witcher 3 was cool as I said. Not sure how actions are supposed to be boring compared to games which boil down to watching a story with minimal and simple gameplay which pretends your choices matter with everything boiling down to same result/same decision in the very end. Life is Strange despite being touchy at moments, still suffered from 2 endings which you decide in the very end by two buttons. Writing was insane cringe too. And I agree about Just Cause 3. This might be pretty good.

"No more skills, perks are mostly "+20% to this and that" Since when Fallout was ever about graphics? + Mods will be like shit ton since day one. At least i agree only on the ending of Life is Strange.

You have any reasoning behind this epic meme video or you just didn't know that skills and perks are simplified to no end now? "Since when is X about graphics" doesnt quite work when game comes out in 2015 and looks like its from 2009 and barely looks any better than the game which came out on previous generation of consoles, and mods aren't really a reason to praise the developers.

I'd be happy to hear how me visiting RESIDENT EVIL modding forum has ANYTHING to do with FALLOUT 4 and how ass it looks. While we are it I'm glad you enjoy good graphics but I don't see how that means anything for fo4 looking like ass either.

Phew. 1)You obviously didn't catch the sarcasm there did you? the "modding" forum was a joke lel. 2)For Fallout 4 we praise the developers for their gigantic work. Fallout 4 was so much expected as Half Life 3 is. When the words came out that it would not just release, but it was FINISHED, we praised and praised and praised Bethesda. Everyone went batshit. Bethesda kept the original way, the "vintage" look. This way closes the doors to the discussions like "omg the graphics are good, BUT COULD BE BETTER". I mean nobody would ever be satisfied even if it was rendered in Direct X12 because of lust for more. And this way it opens doors to more low end gamers wich are MANY, and also leaves quite the room to the guys like us modders (typically not me) to make the game as much more fun as it can be. Tell me for example, do you enjoy Resident Evil 6 when it came out, totally default, more? Or do you enjoy it more now, where there are a ton of beautiful mods? Edit : OMG i have made a mistake on the previous reply. between graphics and gameplay, i choose GAMEPLAY.

Lust for more? This isnt about "it could have been better". This objectively looks ass and underdeveloped. Also no reason to sugarcoat ass graphics with saying that its a way for low end PCs. There is plenty of games with good graphics which also run well on weak pc configurations. Also I REALLY enjoyed RE6 on release. I enjoyed it with mods too. I dont see how it improves the fact that un-modded game is subpar though. I would be REALLY happy to be proven wrong if fallout 4 comes out and looks better than leaked version right now since I was waiting for that game. But as it stands right now, it looks really poor. Anyway I think we really got sidetracked off the topic here, lets see if any other people have anything to say on the thread topic, lol

Anyway I think we really got sidetracked off the topic here, lets see if any other people have anything to say on the thread topic, lol Well i'm not trying to sugar coat it. In my opinion it just feels good like i'm playing old games (2004 - 2008 like). I'm just glad i'll have that sensation back. Trust me if they would have taken a revolutionary step towards graphics, the topics of "could be better" would be inevitable. (Revolutionary as if compared to previous Fallout games). But yeah there is a limit to what a game can hold. You can't just throw everything best gameplay, best graphics, best storyline and make it a perfect 11/10 game. There are restrictions. (Right now i'm trying to figure out why Bethesda didn't improve graphics but the only logical answer that comes up in my mind is what i said). You can't deny the satisfaction of a modded game vs unmodded game gives tho. The joke was about modding. Speaking of modding is not a reason to praise the developers, hence we are in a modding forum. I agree, but, at least the option to mod is. Especially where in Fallout 4, Bethesda gives the support to modders. Anyways we made ourselves very clear, now let's wait for other opinions shall we? In the mean time, chill xD

This year was kinda boring.
Revelations 2 being great was a shock to fucking EVERYONE, so was Mad Max and Undertale.
Life is Strange and MGSV let me down hard. Dark Souls 2: SOTFS was even more disappointing than vanilla game. MKX /became/ great, but I'm not sure I can forgive the shitty launch. Arkham Knight? Fucking disgraceful. Saint's Row: Gat out of Hell was MEDIOCRE. The Order 1886 was a joke, but everyone expected that. While Hotline Miami 2 was okay, it wasn't THAT great. Shadowrun: Hong Kong was good, but it didn't live up to Dragonfall which disappointed me. Not a new release, but Payday 2 went to shit this year too. I personally didn't like DMC4: SE either, since it didn't fix any of the glaring problems with the original game.
I'm buying Halo 5 and AC: Syndicate in December, I hope they're not shit.

I have to admit that Arkham Knight failed me in a way since my expectations where high, the main thing that killed the game was the complete and utter emphasis on the batmobile, the game really should been called "Batman Arkham Night of the Batmobile" or something lol.
And I have not had a chance to play MGV yet, plan on picking it up soon.
And I just recently got Halo 5 and while its good its not as good as it previous game Halo 4, it has made so many changes to the system that it feels kinda foreign to me now and takes a bit away from my enjoyment, it is however still a pretty good game.
I can say for sure that I had a better year with my gaming last year, don't know if I would call this over all year in gaming disappointing, I would however call it lacking.

In my opinion, it is completely silly to critique a game based on graphics these days as developers in general have their own engines and stylistic standards. Fallout 4 and Skyrim don't have shit on RE6's character models and animation. Most western games like Dragon Age and Skyrim have slight cartoonish and exaggerated character models and at times jerky animations. Japanese developers do pretty high standard with motion capture and facial capture, something that western developers are now taking an interest in.
For Bethesda, I would understand that graphics are not a huge priority for them, as they are making a big world that has activity behind the scenes while you do whatever. If they have the animation and character model detail of RE6 standards, the game would be ridiculously huge in GB size and expensive to compensate for all the investment. Sounds get recycled for a reason in most games too.
Gameplay makes the games, after all why are people still playing games such as RE: Outbreak or TES Morrowind?
That's my 2 cents. Simplified game mechanics will no doubt be more complicated with mods in the future.
Also I think I'm still in 2014, Only playing Victor Vran from this year and its not a bad game, it's not remarkable either but its a nudge from nostalgia on isometric RPGs.

Bethesda games have almost always prioritised everything else over graphics. A lot of people (not me) consider Fallout 3 one of the best RPGs of all time; It sure as hell isn't for the animations and visuals.
