Hi, I'm new to this forum and Resident Evil 4 modding, so please forgive me if iI do anything wrong ;-;
So I've been trying to replace the main story's Leon with other characters such as Ada and Wesker, and I've been trying to do so by replacing the files in "EM" and "ImagepackHD" with their corresponding file numbers, such as Pl16 (Ada from separate ways I assume) over Pl00 (Leon), and the image file with 01000000 (Leon I guess?) with 01000016 (Ada?). However, this just leads to a crash to desktop upon starting a new game / loading a saved game.
Any ideas how to get this to work? I've seen tools like the unpacker, the importer and exporter and so on, and I'm just terribly confused as to which I should use or how to do it. If someone can point me in the right direction that'll be greatly appreciated!

Hi and Welcome, you are right about the file names, BUT RE4UHD file structure is FAR more twisted and complicated than in the 2007 RE4 port. You can't simply change a character by moving the files because every .udas (or .lfs) file is an archive which contains a lot of files. And their structure is different in different pl**.udas files. The only way to replace characters is to extract stuff from .udas files, replace .bin and .tpl files in them, and repack .udas files with updated files. If you fully read and understand this great Son of Persia's tutorial: residentevilmodding.boards.net/thread/2486/re4-model-importer-exporter-toolset then you will be able to do that.

Yeah I've seen that, and I've reread it a couple of times already, still kinda confused really... I'll give it a go in the morning and see how it goes... was really hoping there was a simpler way for assets already in game and not ported over haha. Quick question tho, since they're in separate sections. If I do the whole model swap thing in that format, do I have to do another round for the texture? Or is the texture linked to the model, like some other games I've messed around with like Skyrim.
**If anyone has done an ada replacer for leon please let me know what files to tinker with, or better yet, share it with us ^-^

You will need to swap .bin files inside of .udas archives, then link all the new textures in the corresponding .tpl files. And then to put your textures in the end of the original ImagePackHD texture pack.
Not sure if someone made ada replacement for UHD, better check in the mod release section.
