How do you like your Resident evil games?
As of late there has been a lot of debate on where the series should head, should it stay on the action oriented route that it has taken with the latest batch of Resident Evil games, or should it take a step back to revisit its survival horror roots?
Which do you prefer?
The action titles like Resident Evil 4,Resident Evil 5,Resident Evil 6?
Or
The suvival Horror titles like Resident Evil 1,Resident Evil 2,Resident Evil 3,and Resident Evil Code Veronica?
I myself would love to see a return to survival horror, but would like to see the over the shoulder view be kept from the recent games.

Altough I Miss The Survival Horror Genere Titles I Prefer Action Cuz It Means More Fun And More Free Action/Movement Plus Action Titles Involves Co-op Most Of The Times. At The Horror Generes It Was Mostly About Going Back And Forth,Search Every Corner And Having Limited Action/Movement And You Get To A Point That You Get Bored Of It.Most Of Them Are Single Player-Lack Multiplayer,Because You Know It Quite Kills The Atmosphere Having Someone Else To Play With You,But Yeah We Got Revelations It Got Quite Overrated Isnt?.People Tastes These Days Are Changing And Of Course Moving Forward.I Sincerely Play These New RE Titles Mostly Due To Co-op If They Were Single Played I Doubt I Will Play Them As Much As I Do Anyways With All This Action Gamers Generation From Today I Doubt RE Will Go Back At His Roots,I Will Love To Have Another RE2-3/Outbreak Like Game With Co Op But Sadly Money Moves Everythings And Capcom Dont Even Care About Fans Words

I think something like Lost in Nightmares in RE5 is a good place for RE to go. IMHO, it was a fun mix of the classic survival horror environments and ambience with the newer gameplay mechanics.

Honestly the truest survival horror game that I have played in the last few years is Dead Space 2, man that is a fantastic game in so many ways.

Judging by the poles it seems most enjoy both equally which is ok.
I actually like the core gameplay introduced in the action oriented Resident Evil titles such as the over the shoulder view and recently how they have made it to where you can move and shoot. So I would love to see that aspect of the action games stay.
But everything else about it needs to go in my opinion, I want my Resident Evil back with dark and gloomy settings all the way from beginning to end, I want the thought out puzzles and creepy diaries that I find all over the place, I want to be able to explore the areas and backtrack instead of just playing a mission and moving on to the next area. I want the cheap jump scare to return with ceberus dogs jumping through windows or zombies coming out of closets. Bottom line is i want it to be SCARY again. No more enemies who use machine guns and turrets against you, put the player in a helpless situation like say Chris gets dropped off in a remote Island and lose all of his weapons and equipment (similar to Resident Evil Code Veronica).
I just don't like how the latest titles like RE5 and RE6 pretty much just had you on a straight path and shoot to win type of gameplay with the occasional puzzles. I liked getting to a point in the older Resident Evil games and then having to actually THINK about how I am going to traverse to the next area by thinking back to what i have read and piecing together the clues. Now its just you shooting through hordes of enemies just to make it to the next mission.

Bottom line is i want it to be SCARY again. No more enemies who use machine guns and turrets against you, put the player in a helpless situation like say Chris gets dropped off in a remote Island and lose all of his weapons and equipment (similar to Resident Evil Code Veronica). First, for it to be scary, the Co op partner must be out. There should be some sort of cooperation between story characters but "from far away" like sometimes you'd need a door open, a partner will do it when he'll have to get through here because he has the right key/tool ( tool yup just like Jill i found that very cool ) to open it ! and maybe leave some ammo in some safe rooms and stuff ... but cooperation from far away as i said. It takes the whole atmosphere out with a partner. Then, Melee moves were really awesome, but how would we make it hard to face one enemy like in Rebirth for example if we have those just like in 4/5 ( not even speaking of 6 ... ) ? Maybe for "execution" or a final move or something like that, that would kill the opponent or i don't know xD We need a change in the gameplay too. The "free" camera in RE6 ain't good at all, doesn't fit. We need to have a hard time to get away from the enemies and not being able to see how close they are ! RE4 and 5 were OKAY on that point. Even with 5's lateral steps it was fine, and please no more "random melee" as in 6 ... they thought of it as an improvement but it actually makes it all even more look like everybody knows karate and are the best agents of the world and the game can get easy even with the stamina. The melee moves, if they decide to leave them for the next game ( there will be one IMO because money ) it must be restricted. In Revelations though, i didn't know what i was doing at all XD sometimes i could pull out some melee, when they were stunned maybe ? i don't even know xD most of the enemies didn't have time to be stunned anyway XD You know what ? The RE series NEEDS a reboot. Erase 6 and start the whole story over ( without fucking it up ) and make us live again in a different way the manor and Raccoon City's events. Different doesn't always mean shittier. We can't take the Resident evil games even more down than what 6 did anywayz

Who say's horror can't have free movement? Imagine RE3 with RE6 controls, but nothing else changed, that would be pretty freaking awsome.

Great topic. I say a different mix of the two...maybe more survival horror but still with action parts. After 3 re4 was just mind blowing i never had a problem with it but i do now miss the retro survival horror i must admit. (Z)

I didn't say it CAN'T have free movement, but the fact that it 4 and 5 didn't added tension to the player ... now you can just run away like in Crash Bandicoot I think that restricted movement was always in RE games because of that, which is a good thing.

I'm all in for both.
Honestly speaking? To me, true Resident Evil fans are the ones that accept what the franchise evolves into. I enjoyed just about all the RE games made by Capcom.

Not what i said either but you'll have dying light for this kind of gameplay xD if you want something realistic, you're not supposed to go to resident evil games ... because first how the hell do you explain that while a freakin' infection none of our superheroes get infected ( in the manor, in raccoon ) then, as i said and repeated, that kind of gameplay adds tension to the player, which is what resident evil games tried to do the whole time x) so with free movement, it kills that effect !
