That's a really nice project! I didn't realize it at first, but the downtown area isn't that small after all. It feels small because from the moment Jill creates a diversion in the subway station, it's mostly corridors. But if you take into account the whole thing, ie. the subway station, the commercial district, the power plant, the sewers, the construction site, the Kendo gunshop street, the gas station and the alleyways in between, it's a pretty big setting! Some people complained that the map would be too small for a Mercenaries mode, but I don't agree. All they need to do is remove what's blocking the streets because most of these areas are connected.Well that's the problem right there: the gaming area is big, but they're separated into their own sections, you cannot freely roam to all of them. For example, you can only access the Kendo street after the rooftop fight with Nemi, and you can't go anywhere else, despite there is roads between the areas. Same thing with the gas station, which is even more obscure that how Carlos managed to move all of that shit out of the way so quickly.

If we could create connections between all the city areas with a mod...

Yeah I know what you mean, but I was only talking about the area if Mercenaries/Operation Mad Jackal was to return: I think it'd be possible for the developpers to remove some of the barricades like cars, boxes etc. to make the whole downtown area more open. You could have survivors to save at the gas station, at the top of the construction site, in the sewers, some of the shops from the demo area, the substation, the gunshop... That's quite a few places! I'm secretely hoping that mode will come back as a free update, but it's very unlikely
Anyway, I'll be keeping an eye on that mod I wish I could help, but I hope modders will figure out how to make that area more open while adding some new stuff like items, notes and some of the least common enemies like Lickers, Hunters or Drain Deimos (though their AI seems to be tied to the substation part, don't know if it'd be possible to put them elsewhere...)

Not really, the parking lot is still loaded if you get in and you can see thanks to the light from outside of gates, but you can't access anywhere else from there as the rest of the interiors of RPD are cut.And yea I think there aren't any collisions inside so it is kinda pointless.

Hello friends, like many out there, i was super dissapointed by how exploration was replaced with setpieces, but after seeing this mod, it gave me some hope, but i have a few questions on a few topics, as we all know in the original game Jill gets the Lockpick in the RPD, in this game the location of this item is SERIOUSLY disappointing, so here comes my first question, how possible is to connect the RPD front gates to the current game map?i am fully aware that the RPD on the first map is empty, but is it possible to move the one Carlos enters? is it possible to restore the RE2R RPD in this game? if any of this is possible i would totally find some time to study modding or whatever knowledge is need to acomplish such feats, and would gradly offer my help, i feel that simply restoring the RPD and making it possible to go there and get the lockpick would add so much to the game, so how feasible is all of this?

It's not possible at this time and probably ever. The RPD is only loaded in for Carlos.

So without proper tools its not feasible? and when you say loaded, its somewhere away from the main map or they just load the RPD map alone with carlos in it?

I see... can you indicate me some material to study modding specific to this engine? my best friend is a professional coder(we studied Computer Science together before i started Eletrical Engeneering) and i am determined to see if i can find a solution to this, even if it takes years to do so, so i plan to study durinng free time and ask his help to see what can be done, and i am fully aware that it means creating some sort of tool, man this is going to be tough.

In the meantime, I'd suggest starting small. You're going to need to get good at hex. The modding tutorials page has the tools and lists the things we can do.
Right now, a few of us are trying to expand on the early parts of the game as you can see here in this thread.
For example, I'm trying to expand Nemesis' zones so he can enter into the subway office building where the shotgun is loaded.
