I'm a huge fan of the classic id games myself(if you couldn't tell by my avatar...) Grew up playing Doom and Quake and never grew out of it.
Having said that, I actually didn't like Doom '16. To be fair though, I never played myself, I just watched my brother play it, and I didn't like what I saw - trading traditional PC save system for console Checkpoints, having to chase down and punch robots for upgrades seemed like a gimmick designed to make a moron chuckle, and it just looked like they where trying to make Doom 'hip' in general. Feels like id just isn't the same now that all the old guard are gone. I'm not even sure who's left, Cloud maybe? Or has he left too?
Of course, those were just my impressions from watching someone else play Doom '16. If I played it myself, I very well might have a different opinion about it.(except for the punching-robots-for-upgrades thing - that's stupid)
I did notice either Lance Hendrickson - or someone who could do his voice very well - voiced your robot Ally(?). That's actually a huge point in it's favor. And the fact that the game basically throws you straight into the action right at the start. That's the proper way to begin a Doom game.
As for Doom Eternal excitement; It looks kool in the videos - but I thought the same about '16. I think I'm more excited for games like Fear Effect Reinvented and VtM Bloodlines 2.

I have an ongoing project for Obsidian's Spy RPG Alpha Protocol. It's called Alpha Protocol Improved! You can find it here: www.moddb.com/mods/alpha-protocol-improved(Includes a fix for the oversized reticles and other stuff) I also made a mod for F.E.A.R. that removes the flashlight's battery recharge function. It's called Infinite Flashlight: www.moddb.com/mods/infinite-flashlightI also have other stuff I haven't uploaded yet like a KotOR mod that turns Juhani into a human(model, texture, etc., been 100% finished for over a year, actually), a texture mod for Grandia 2 that adds noses to Ryudo and other NPCs(or just Ryudo?), a mod for Fallout 3 that adds a new follower, vendor, and new weapons(automatic plasma rifle!), plus a new quest thats both unmarked and unfinished, and other junk for random games in various stages of functionality. Support me on imaginary Patreon! How it works: close your eyes and then imagine sending me an amount of your choosing(preferably $5 US).

Well, just started back playing RERev again after RL stuff got in the way. I beat the first(fingers-crossed--only!?) chapter with Quint and Keith. Yeah, dumb and dumber is correct, JTeghius Kittius. Gotta be the first time in a Resi game I had to backtrack because a character dropped a key item, wtf? lol.
And what was up with that invisible enemy in the camera feed? I thought the Queen Zenobia was a cruise ship--not a Carrier....
@ Biohazard4X -- Agreed. Character development is a big deal to me also but, so far at least, it seems to be a big waste in this game.

Thought perhaps this may be a good place to ask, since there are so many modders who post vids, screenshots, etc....
Can anyone recommend a simple, lightweight app to take screenshots in games that don't have a built-in screenshot button? I'm not interested in recording video, btw, just a small app that can snap screenshots in-game.
Oh, yeah, my OS(es) is(are) Win 10 x64bit. But one that works on XP 32bit also would be a nice bonus aswell....
Edit: Forgot there was an Arts and Pictures section. Then again this is something '...that isn't related to Resident Evil'.... *shrug*
Edit 2: Well I downloaded a couple apps like greenshot and some others but they didn't work in-game. Then saw somewhere that you could simply take screenshots in any game on Win 10 by pressing the Win key+G and clicking on the screenshot button in the pop-up window! Lol, I never knew that!

the ship is definitely the best part of the game. Yeah really dig the ship. I wish the game just ditched everyone except Jill and Chris and left them on the the ship. Wondering around the corridors makes me wanna finally play Dead Aim, actually. I recall them from a cutscene. Yeah, I not looking forward to it. PC. Not interested in the handheld version. Little screens are for little kids. I'm a big boy! I buy my own pants! Everything you say is probably true. However, I respectfully redirect you to my previous statement. Also, I'm actually looking forward to the grind--more 'Becca time!(WARNING! The previous 'Pro Grind' statement is subject to change at anytime!) Agreed. Story is so-bad-it's-funny. I'm not even reading all the notes and journals--something I always do in the Resi games, even in the ones I've played hundreds of times like the original PSX games--so I know I'm just not feeling it. Jill's VO is especially bad. I don't know who did her voice but if I could have been president of Capcom for a day, I would've fired her, removed Jill and replaced her with Rebecca, and hired someone who is actually a fan of the Resi series to do the voice. Then I would have scraped all the missions not taking place on the ship, threw more money at it, and gave everyone in the company a kitten. Actually, if I could be president of Capcom for a day, I'd call in sick and go shopping.

I'm playing RE Revelations for the first time and I think it is just plain stupid because.... Raymond looks so eff'in stupid. The less said about him, the better. If you look at Parker's face from the side at a slight angle, he looks like a big baby with a beard. Jill's 'Previously on Resident Evil Revelatons' intro lines sound phoned-in, like the actress just didn't care enough to try. The story is soooo lame - Even for current(or modern, whatever) Resi standards. -- Terra-what? Someone in the game said the world wouldn't remember it in a year. I forgot in minutes. I wish what's-her-face with Chris/Parker would STFU about her ass and legs and focus on WHAT'S ACTUALLY HAPPENING IN THE GAME!(Oh? A hunter is trying to eat my face? I wouldn't date him! He's not my type! Tee-hee!) There isn't a run button. Really? I know the jog speed is roughly equivalent to(or the same?) as in RERemake, Zero, etc., but it's a mental thing, ya'know? Like I feel an actual run button would help me dodge more than the dodge helps me dodge, although I like the dodge--it's great! I would say more but I'm only on chapter 3 or 4(I don't care enough to know -- just beat the comm-officer with a knife cuz I ran out of pistol ammo and didn't have the shotgun or rifle yet -- circle strafe FTW! -- I found the shoty and rifle in the next chapter, got a check point after unlocking the coin door in the casino, saved and came here to rant....) I just wana beat the campaign to unlock all the stages/characters in raid mode(so I can then swap out all these morons with characters I actually like - CVX Chris, Rebecca, Barry, Wesker, etc., -- HUGE thank you to all the talented modders on this board for all your work! I'm using a Rebecca replacement for Jill mod now so my enjoyment increased 78.97%!) As I said, I'm just getting into this game and so far, I think RE Revelations is just plain stupid... but I like it! I like it because.... Raid Mode. Love it. Why I got the game in the first place(more 'Becca time!) Dodge feature. Love it. Although, like the parry in Dark Souls, I gotta keep practicing(especially sense I've switched from the Defualt control to Classic then back to Defualt and I'm no longer 100% positive how to do it, lol). Exploration is rewarded with goodies/hidden items. This is always a good thing in games. Although, I didn't like the scanning mechanic(or gimmick) at first, it's growing on me. Although, I'm not to sure how I feel about getting a herb as a reward for scanning multiple enemies. I think it would be better if you received increased damage versus each enemy type scanned instead or in-addition too maybe. Weapons upgrades are nice. Not much else to say here I suppose. I just hope it doesn't get stale too fast. And of course the characters. Let's see, we've got Chris 'Roid' Redfield, Check. Jill in a skin tight outfit, Check. What's-her-face, Check. No Rebecca without mods, Check. Moving on... Level design of the ship is really nice. I like the MSG2 feel of the opening chapter and the more classic Resi feel of some of the areas. Didn't think much of Chis's mountain level or Parker's urban level(not just because what's-her-face wouldn't zip it.) I hate flashbacks/jumping back and forth between different characters in games--generally speaking. There are exceptions of course(RE REV 2, which I have have on 360 and PC did it well, sorta....) Edit: The music! How could I have forgotten about the music! I really like all the music I've heard so far in the game. I love the track that plays in the big circular hall.(called the Grand Hall right? I saw it called that in a walkthrough--yes, I got frustrated after I found the shotgun because I couldn't find the rifle and I really wanted to shoot things way far away and I was in a hurry and tired of playing and wanted to get to checkpoint, save, and quit, so I looked up the location in a guide--I'm so ashamed. ) Also, I really like the soft tune that plays when you open the weapon box. Very relaxing, probably my favorite, so far. That's all I can think of now.... Your thoughts?

Alright. Well, looks like I've got some diggin' to do. Thank you for the info, sir! Edit: Wow man. This... Is... Boring.... Copy. Paste. Extract. Open. Search. Repeat.... Once in a bluemoon I hit the jackpot and it's like: Copy. Paste. Extract. Open. Search. --Replace!-- Repeat.... I feel like a robot that glichted and fried it's motherboard and is now stuck in some kind of logic loop: Copy. Paste. Extract. Open. Search. Repeat.... My buddy stopped by earlier and asked me what I was doing and I yelled: 'Losing my f@&k'in mind!' lol. It's ok. I'm ok.... Copy. Paste. Extract. Open. Search. Repeat....

Thank you for your response Mr. Curious. I've seen you around on the silent hill modding boards and other places I lurk. Your name fits your avatar perfectly, btw. It always makes me smile - especially when you ask someone a question like 'How did you do that?' or 'Can you tell me about this?', lol.
Anyway, probably about to make a fool of myself as hex-code-stuff is still a mystery to me but... are you sure that 01 04 72 is the right hex code to search for in the .eff files? I looked in about half the .eff files from the room .dats in the st1 folder and couldn't find it.
Perhaps the extractor I'm using the extract files from the room .dats is mucking with the files? I'm away from my pc at the moment and I don't recall the name but it has a Japanese or Chinese(or some other 'nese) interface.
Edit: Just re-read your post and you mention '....open the .eff file for each room that uses the film grain effect....' - doesn't every room use a film grain effect?
So it's not present in each .eff file for every room? How can that be when it's a constantly there on the screen from the moment the player takes control until the very end of the game?

Damn, just saw this.... Now I have start over! I'll probably be back in a hour with either - OMG! I be n00b! How dis work? -or- excellent job, keep it up! Either way, it'll be interesting.... Edit: Well, just tried the mod and after picking up the silencer the game crashes when I try to enter the inventory. Tried it repeatedly with both the regular game.exe and the 64bit game.exe executables just in case the .exe was the problem. No other mods installed(not even textures...). Also the camera was pulled waaaay too far out in the beginning area for my tastes personally, and when entering the cabin and watching(read: skipping) the cutscenes the camera is over Leon's left shoulder when walking around/exploring and constantly clipping thourgh the walls which looks bad. Although, it wasn't an issue in combat as it behaved normally while aiming.(Edit: Just glanced at your screenshots - It seems having the camera over the left shoulder inside the cabin is intentional? Didn't realize that before.) All-in-all though, I thought it was kinda neat, lol. As you said yourself, it's experimental so if you ever decide to (re)work on this mod again, I'd gladly give it another run.

Does anyone know if a 'no film grain' mod exsists for RE 4(Ubisoft/Original version)?
I'd settle for just knowing which file to edit, if anyone knows also. I figured out how to make my own no film grain mod for RE Revelations 2 by reading the comments in the no film grain mod thread for that game(i.e., I opened TVnoise_LIN.tex and VolumeNoise_LIN.tex files in the core.arc with HxD and replaced the first few blocks just after the header with 00's and deleted everything after reducing both to (presumably)blank, 1kb files - worked like a charm!)
I'd like to at least attempt something similar with RE 4 but I'm clueless as to which file to look at. I've already unpacked most(all?) the .dat files but after spending hours looking for files with the letters 'fil'(for filter), or 'scr'(for screen), or 'noise' or 'grn'(for grain), in their filenames I had no luck(although it's possible I overlooked something. The only files I can't open are the .cab and .hdr files. The only 'hdr' I'm familar with is high dynamic range - so I assume the .hdr file has something to do with lighting and I'm 100% positive I downloaded a tool to open .cab files a few days ago for something unrelated but now I can't find it. I haven't googled that tool again though because my gut tells me what I'm looking for isn't in the .cab files... So... any ideas?
Edit: Dammit, wanted to edit this post to fix typos and I hit the 'like' button instead, heh. Silly me being silly again.

Anyone have an alternate download link for the arcscape tool mentioned in the first post? That link above goes through adfly to a bs site....(btw, between last night and today I've spent a couple hours here and there checking some mods/tools on these forums and that gets linked to on an alarming frequency...) Edit: Nevermind. I just did a google search for it and it lead me back to a post on this board: residentevilmodding.boards.net/thread/9722/arcscape-modding-toolEdit 2: Fuck man, when I was on that damn site a second ago I accidently clicked 'allow' on a pop-up, now all of a sudden my phone is vibrating like crazy and getting random messages about shit I don't care about. Sigh....

This Resi 3 info better be true... I just hope Capcom doesn't frak things up by overthinking it....
Edit: It's good to hear that Capcom is apparently changing things up for Resi 8. Maybe they figured it was time to roll a hard six....

Carlos had a serious character issue in ORC. His look and his utilization was horrible. Umbrella Chronicles was passable, but even then we really haven’t seen as good of a depiction since RE3. Ah, ok. I never played those games.
