The Last Of Us mod
Authors:
Model meshes of Joel, brick, pipe, shotgun - Math4Dead (from deviantart.com, thanks him very much 1000 times, without his work, most of this wouldn't exist)
LegalSoul - Joel's beard and hair models and his post-processing, Ellie model, rigging the models and everything else in the mod.
I also used 3 or 4 textures from that huge albert's mod with hd menus and huds.
Original Naughty Dog textures were extracted and used for the models.
Description:
First of all, I want to say, that this mod probably may not interest many people, firstly because the models are fan-made and they're not original. And also because I didn't see a lot of console players here, so possibly, some ppl didn't hear of this game.
Anyway!
Exactly a year ago I was first playing through The Last Of Us. And that game impressed me to the depths of my soul, with it's touching story and characters along with it's gameplay.
So immediately after that I've got an idea to make a RE4 mod for this game.
But we know, that Naughty Dog always keep their models compressed, and still no one is able to extract them. And The Last Of Us, which is their game, is not an exception. The original models CAN'T be extracted, it's a mission impossible, due to some PS3's vertex compression. But anyway, I didn't know that, and waited a half-year for anyone to extract them. And that didn't happen.
But the idea of this mod didn't want to go out of my head. So I've started to make something from a scratch, and then saw that guy Math4Dead, who was already working on Joel from a scratch.
So, the models are not original, they are made from a scratch which is quite hard, and yes, they don't exactly look as in the original game(especially Ellie). But I assure you, that these are the closest available models of these characters for this moment.
And now finally I've finished the implementation of my goddamn idea
*EDIT (On December 2014): Much much later than I made this topic, some people did some unbelievable work and actually managed to extract the original models*
This video demonstration shows the mod features. The sound comes from the game.
Mod features:
1) First and the main are those handmade characters models.
Joel replaces Leon (with coat, witout coat, with tactical vest) in the main story and mercs, Ellie replaces Ashley. That will replace the standard costumes.
I don't have very much exp. in rigging for RE4, so the rig is good, I think, but there are few glitches somewhere.
And then there was a huge transparency problem, due to RE4 engine. And I've fixed that as much as I could. But that's a huge another story about the transparency.
Also couldn't downsize Ellie's skeleton, so she is bigger that she should be. Her hair is also animated a little bit. She can blink but eyes are not moving, cause otherwise they fall of the orbits
Screeens are all clickable:
There are two different shirt versions: the normal and the crazy-detailed one:
2) More suitable HUD and player names (see at upper screens)
I don't use Texmod for some own reasons. So everything is done by changing the Core.dat. The character names textures have 4x bigger resolution. I've increased the resolution somewhere else also, but not everywhere, cause there's a size limit for core.dat file.
3) Props.
--Our old man Joel doesn't really like combat knives, he prefers much more using a strong pipe with some dangerous scissors on it:
--Bricks are the key to surviving, mark my word. You know what I'm talking about, if you played that game Replacement for eggs. HUD picture comes right with it.
WARNING: DO NOT EAT BRICKS, it's possible to do in game, but it is really bad for health. Come on, Joel is an old man and he has a lot of stress these days, and a brick will do no good for his stomach and may cause a painful ache.
--Shotgun from TLOU game. Replaces original Shotgun in the game.
4) New title screen (NO texmod here as well, everything is made with title.dat)
Background picture resolution has been increased by 2x. Though it still has to be 8bit, so the color suffers. Also I've tried to make the buttons look more like from TLOU (couldn't find only the damn Exit button to change it).
5) Audio
Replacement for characters' voices ingame with the ones, that were ripped from TLOU. There are also some music changes (not much, about 10 files)
You can hear the audio from the video far above.
Thanks to brendan19 and Researchman and AlphaTwentyThree from xentax.com, I used their QuickBMS scripts to rip audio from TLOU.
6) Radio-communication models also work.
And there is some primitive face animation (well at least mouth is opening), but they have original voice tracks. I also had to replace a liiitle piece of the beard with a simple texture in the chin for it to move along with the mouth, but that isn't noticeable.
7) And the most important - the blinking "LOADING" message is just like in TLOU
Download:
In order to install - simply copy and replace the folders from archive(Readme inside).
No need for Texmod in this mod.
That's all. See ya.
