Hello there, I recently install DarkSamus's XBOX 360 button mod (GCN Layout V2). I want to add marcelo20xx "no grain effect" to the 07000000.pack in the controller mod for my own personal use. I tried to modify with the YZ2 tool myself and failed. The game immediately crashed and I'm stuck. If anyone here can help me with the process, I'll be grateful.

I may be able to help. Please describe the steps you took, and where you think things went wrong.
One word of advice before modding this.. make sure you always have a backup of your 07000000. pack file.

Thanks for the reply. I took the 07000000.pack from the controller mod and unpacked it. I did the same for the "no grain filter" and focused on the file called 0193.dds. I deleted it on the controller mod and replaced the 0193.dds file from the no grain mod then repacked it. I think that's the big mistake. I took a look at marcelo20xx first post that stated that I have to alpha the 0193.dds texture inside the 07000000 file. I don't know what that means to be straight. Again thanks for the reply and have a nice day.

ok,im not sure what is going on here, but simply swapping out the 0193.dds file with a new version and repacking should not cause errors. You are saying that the game crashes, which means the game is proabably looking for a texture file that simply isn't there. You said "I deleted it on the controller mod". Perhaps you could elaborate on that. What do you mean by this? What is meant by 'alpha' is simply that the 0193.dds file needs to be basically blank. We use a blank file for this part of the game because the original leaves us with fuzzy grains of data all over the screen (compare the two files and you will see). I have uploaded a version you can use that works fine for me. When dealing with textures, Alpha is always the transparent channel of the file. Let me know if this works, or if you need more help. Cheers, Mr.Curious

To clarify what I said, I deleted the 0193.dds in the controller mod's 07000000 file after I unpacked it. Then I unpacked the no grain mod and took the 0193.dds. Placed it in the 07000000 file of the controller mod and repacked. I'm sure 0193.dds is still there after the swap but I still get crashes. Also thanks for your 0193.dds file but it I still get crashes. A couple of questions, how do you view the dds files? What program should I use? Also if swapping doesn't work for me, could I make the original 0193.dds file blank by myself? If you have any suggestions I'll appreciate it. Thank you and have a nice day.

hmm not sure why you game would crash. As far as I remember DarkSamus' button mods were supposed to include the shader fixes so you might not even have to do any of this. To solve the problem though, we can also look at: Double checking:
- Does the game crash with the unmodified DarkSamus 07000000 file? (if so, its another mod that is crashing the game) - How many files are in DarkSamus' mod and how many in the new pack file? - Are ALL the files in the 07000000 folder? (if there is one missing the game will crash) - did you remove or rename the 07000000.pack.lfs file? - did you place the newly packed 0700000 pack file in the ImagpackJD and ImagePack folders? Remedies- re download the YZ2 tool again in case it was corrupted in transit. - start with a clean install of the game with no other mods and see if it works. We know its not the texture files themselves because the one I provided doesn't work either. This leads to to believe something is going wrong in the repacking process or that another mod is responsible. DDS files can be viewed with a free program Paint.net

First off, I want to thank you for your help and resources. I figured out the problem. Once you unpack the 07000000 pack from DarkSamus's GCN controller mod, all you have to do is to modify the 0193.dds file. Then focus the attention on two other files called 0216 and 0217. 0216 and 0217 are bin files, not dds. The solution to this is to take the 0216 and 0217 dds files from the original 07000000.pack.lfs and to place in the dds in the modified 07000000 pack file. Repack the 070000000 pack and have fun. Again thank you for your help Mr. Curious and I hope this thread helps others.

oh yes.. I dont know why I forgot that ... I know what happened! Sometimes .tga files from pack files get turned into BIN files with those tools. You are correct in your answer to replace them with the DDS files. I am glad that worked out for you. =)
