If i use the steam version can i get any mods such as Wilonso trainer, and more. Another thing with the GFWL old version without versus etc whenever i try to play online I get disconnected instantly when playing with others as well as others get disconnected instantly when trying to play with me. Are mods usable online with others?

For models, audio & texture mods, it's completely free and works also for GFWL & Steam. For theses mods, there will be no conflicts online.
Stages modifications are usable online if the other person also had the mods (game will crash during the stage loading)

I can join others though. ive tried with and without mods as host and its always kicked them. I can perfectly play with others if im not the host

It's weird.
What sort of mod did you used.
And what about your connection ? Can you make a speedtest for example ?

I am only using wilonsos trainer with his patches and what not installed, and one model modification which is only for Hand gun ammunition. as for a speedtest here it is www.speedtest.net/my-result/5090811847

Try without the trainer, I know that there is one trainer for GFWL, but dunno wich one.
