It's a shame metro redux isn't on sale, I found it infinitely scarier.

I'm guessing you never played any scary game using headphones (Loud) on about 25% volume did you?
I play with the headphones loud + DFX audio enhancer.

I play all of my games at 100% (Except mad max because the explosion sounds are genuinely painful to listen to.), Outlast still wasn't scary to me.

I prefer atmospheric horror that invokes "nothing is scarier" and helplessness.

Not helplessness as in "you literally can't do anything", helpless as in "you can fight back, but barely."

Metro 2033 Redux on Survival Ranger Hardcore is hands down the most pant shitting experience ever.

For the best survival horror experience, set the playtype to Survival and the difficulty to Ranger. It's amazing.
