Another lie that they were trying to hide. I think that was originally they were going to release the game under branded the RE, but rejected the full name, when they received a negative reaction and began to make excuses, it's a game is not related to the main series.
Pathetic Capcom!

I think they tried to hide it being a Resident Evil game but if you're like me and you search the steam store by "Biohazard" it still shows up with the rest.
Good job, Capcom, you can't even lie right.

I'm glad they changed it from RE UC to UC. RE community is already salty and toxic enough.

I think Dota 2's community is saltier and more toxic to be frank.

Fans not getting their way has NOTHING to do with why the Dota 2 community has the reputation it does. Competitive games have a very different kind of salt compared to dissatisfied fans. Plus UC shouldn't even exist then if pissed off fans held such authority.

Im not talking about Dota 2 ;_; And fans should never have that authority really, considering Capcom is catering to everyone they can at once, its easy to see why the community for Resident Evil and their affiliated spin-offs are so salty. RE7= The horror we asked for UC= A spin-off to give us something to have fun with and not worry about the RE universe RE2 Remake= The old classics we want 'remade' (noting that the second this one relases people are gonna spam everywhere about how we now need RE3 remake) Whether or not we get what we want, people still are always salty about SOMETHING, heck, remember when RE6 came out? It was literally nothing but "QTES ARE GAY" "PIERS IS OP" "QUICKSHOTS ARE BULLSHIT" "AGENT IS OP" "THIS GAME HAS NO HORROR" "THIS GAME HAS NOT ENOUGH ZOMBIESS" So im just being honest, whether or not we get what we want, salt will always find its way.... always

The problem is we get something that the developers think we want. RE6 shows how fans' requests and desires get lost in translation.
Fans requested the return of established characters from past titles, "classic" zombies and small-scale viral outbreaks among other things, but as we know all of these showed up botched to hell and back in the game, it wasn't exactly what we wanted.
I wish I could say "we as fans should let CAPCOM do their thing" but we all know we are likely to get some sort of messy abomination as CAPCOM has been clueless with their game brands for years.

The RE community is full of cakes and kisses compared to the general salt of the Dota 2 crowd or any purely competitive E sport game. I agree, in that people will always find something to bitch about regardless though. RE6 I think was a honestly a good game because it has replay value, unlike UC and the pricing. UC is not justifiable at its deemed price. Many feel it is a rip off. "Survivors" was one out of how many multiplayer modes, but honestly Capcom just cannot do a balanced PvP with Resident Evil in general. They are fun if you play with honorable friends who know how to have fun. Onslaught is the exception, but it's sort of a mix between PvE and PvP. But there is always some broken mechanic or exploit that people will use to get ahead. RE5, RE6 and UC have major issues where some tactics are favored more than others so then the game turns into a stale match of who can use the easy tactic first. If people have to use some restraint in a PvP session then something is not right. The matches themselves are also too limited timewise that the games get way too fast paced to be easy or enjoyable for new players. Be it the spamming of quick shots, or spamming the Brainer, there is not a whole lot to counter those tactics so yes people are going to bitch. That's just competitive gaming though. Some people will do anything to win, hence why hacks and VAC exist. Street Fighter is Capcom's better PvP and even then there is debate about the anti rage quit mechanic they have going on in SFV. Does Resident Evil need to really have a competitive PvP multiplayer mode though?! This is where majority of salt from RE fans towards UC comes from. Most people don't want a multiplayer PvP Resident Evil, they want PvE multiplayer if anything. But that is pretty apparent. Still people are going to be as salty as they like, there's no changing that, save for their own opinions and dispositions.

That's the thing.
Why would I WANT to git gud at Umbrella Corps? It's not a good game, it's not a fun one, it's not a unique nor is there any tangible reward to getting any good at it (Not that I need to; I've played enough PVP shooters).
If I want a good shooter I'll just go play OW... or even RE6 since mechanically it was sound.

Also to touch up on your point, which I agree with, I think it has a lot to do with the development team itself. They keep changing people, in addition to directors, writers etc. And yes some people can't be available for everything but you can tell that somewhere on the way the writers, directors and developers have not done enough research with the subject matter because they either weren't really passionate or aware of the franchise. We see this countless times with sequels and other games as well. Its not easy to be a newbie developing something that is a big fleshed out franchise, but nor should it be taken so lightly, and I think that's exactly what Capcom has done, it has taken Resident Evil too lightly in the wrong perspectives and aspects.
