Well I think Claire and Barry certainly had more wit than Moira. Moira was saying what the player was thinking I found alot of the time. Chris and Sheva had some decent conversations in RE5. (Intro and during the stairs in the ship) They also cut out some unused dialogue between Chris and Jill in the Lost in Nightmares DLC. RE2's dialogue is pretty cheesey now but for young kids back then it made enough sense. It would need to be more intelligent this time because the demographic is an older audience. Exactly. I just played Revelations 2 today and have an example, from Episode 3: Claire: "Hurry, Neil needs me." Moira: "He needs YOU?" It made sense and it didn't stand out as something you wouldn't say in real life. The series is known for its serious-yet-cheesy dialogue so the tongue-in-cheek sarcasm we had on Revelations 2 was a refreshing change. Yeah I did get that impression that the writers were wanting to go deeper. I mean Moira reacted how I would react with the swearing, but it kinda made me think of the 4th wall effect and maybe was a slight nudge to the Verfremdungseffekt (Alienation effect) They were making references to Kafka, who I am now studying in class, but I'd have to really replay the game now as I forgot all the Kafka references.

Well I think Claire and Barry certainly had more wit than Moira. Moira was saying what the player was thinking I found alot of the time. If she was saying what players are thinking then I would question said players ability to construct basic sentences, because so far (I should point out as a disclaimer that I havent beaten the entire game yet- I'm near the end of Barrys episode two, but just because it is supposedly better later on does not excuse what I'm about to write in any way) everytime she opened her mouth I was beginning to think that this game takes place on a different planet, because people don't talk that way. But for now let's focus on Barry and Claire. From what I can recollect people don't like how the established charaters are handled in recent games. I may have not looked to deep into it but so far I haven't noticed anyone complaing about Claire in this game, and she is destroyed. The thngs she says and does are not only out of character for her but are the oposite of that. For starters her quoting Steve when finding a gun- did something happen off screen that she lost faith in all humanity, because as far as I remember everytime she got in trouble there was someone who would help her out and she could rely on, be it Leon in RE2, Chris in CV, even Steve in the very same game and again Leon in Degeneration. So either her cat died recently or she's got a bad case of PMS. Or she's a badly writen character who says crap which contradicts who she was to this point just for the sake of fan service. Her second time she did a 180 was when her and Moira first met Natalia. Answer me this: Which character would better connect with a little girl left alone during a viral outbreak. According to this game certainly NOT the character who already connected with a little girl left alone during a viral outbreak. And she even had a child sidekick to babysit in Degeneration too. So I suppose that the same events that caused her to be so cold towards other humans also distanced her from children. Ok, time for Barry. To understand how poorly written his dialogue is one needs to look no further then his opening monologue. The "please, be alive" line mirrors Rebeccas (I think it was her) "Chris, don't die" from the original RE game. And everyone knows how "expertly" written that was (but was kind of adorable due to absolute ineptitude of everyone involved). Actually this game references past games so much that I think they ran out of ideas for original dialogue which is sad because it refers to possibly better games than this one. The ironic thing is that thanks to the REmake some of these lines were rendered obsolete. What's worse many new players will have no idea what they're blabbing about, since the only game they played with Resident Evil in the title was the GameCube remake. So when Barry says "who's the master of unlocking now?" they'll be screatching their heads because he was reffering to something that he didn't even say in this continuity (and to lesser extent the same goes for the "claire sandwich" line). So is Resident Evil spoofing itself now- I thought this was supposed to be a well written game. It winks to the diehard fans so much that it may as well have epilepsy (no offense to epileptics). And now for the worst new character in a RE game in a very long time. You know, I can understand excessive swearing when in stress. I can undersrand swearing used a an integral part of someone's everyday language. But no one swears like this. The complete lack of taste that is apparent everytime filth comes out of her mouth makes me wonder if her lines were written by a 10 year old, who thinks this is what grownups talk like, or is this how the japanese think what western kids behave (as a side note considering her alternative outfit choise of words is not the only thing she lacks taste in). Her dialogue is forced, unnatural and unconvincing and she as a character is unlikable, hard to relate to, and frankly, a real bitch. She might have been, in theory, the players proxy in this game, but honestly, I'm with Claire on this one. Playing a Resident Evil game is like another day at the office for most players, they know what to expect, so they'll of course be relating more to the character that this kind of situation is nothing new. Regarding the alienation effect, I think you might be onto something there. I do feel like I'm being alienated. Moira Burton alienates me from this game .

Either that or I don't think I have a conclusive opinion/backbone when it comes to most RE characters (Except Chris). I agree Moira's swearing was over the top and was forced and she was more there for new players to the series and a little nudge to Barry. I was only recalling instances where she basically said what i thought at certain jump scares and it kinda pulled me out of the game and I was like hmm Kafka = German, Alienation effect also German. Hmmm? If they were referencing Brecht then I would defiantly give them kudos for an intentional Alienation Effeckt, but nah that's giving them too much credit. Isn't RE all a mess which ever way you look at it?!

Rtoo: I absolutely agree with you on Claire and Moira. I think I spent more time in the game wanting to kill Moira than any of the BOWs. It's a shame Barry and his wife have such horrible parenting skills. However, I have to admit I like the "obscure" Barry jokes. His dialogue has been legendary among fans ever since he showed his mug on screen, and I liked the "in-jokes" (perhaps because I'm one of the in-crowd). I found both of the lines you mentioned funny, and I also think they are harmless to the less familiar fans. I think it's cool to have a nod or two in there to the obsessed, crazy people like us who love the fandom so much we can apply random Barry quotes to every day life. It's the entire remainder of the dialogue I find disappointing. Hopefully, they'll learn to write Claire again one day, and Moira can go hang out on the same island Quint and Keith are.

Oh, by all means, if you enjoy these then all the better for you. It's not inheretly bad that those lines are there- I like when RE is goofy. But from the opinions posted here it seems like Revelations 2 tries to be this dark, serious tale with a lot of subtext and hidden meanings (I'm not saying it isn't), but if they wanted it this way why the jokes, references or other crap that interferes with the atmosphere. They should pick a tone and stick with it. As it is they've thrown everything into the blender without any thought put into it. And if you want something to be everything you risk it being nothing. Also, It might be just me, because so far I'm not that impressed with this game, but with all those nods to the other games don't you get this feeling that you would rather play those games instead of this one?

Oh, absolutely, I played the entire thing and I didn't like it (of course, I didn't like Revelations 1 either, despite my mad love for raid mode). I completely agree with you. It definitely tries too hard to please everyone instead of being consistent. And I've loved or at least liked every single other RE game I've played (though I admit RE3 was not my favorite thing in the world, and of course I can't stand RE5's writing), but the Revelations games just don't do it for me. The hundreds of hours I have between the two come from raid mode.

I agree with the majority written here and you made good points.
To be fair after all this time it seemed strange that Claire chose to look after Neil, who seemed rather capable, instead of a helpless little girl. She's also shown little interest in her, telling Moira that they'll "look for her as (they) go" while there are monsters on the loose.

Well, hearing those lines you quoted made me think- are they (Neill and Claire) banging eachother? Because that would mean that a Resident Evil character hinting at being in a romantic relationship with someone. Whoa! Stop the presses, we've got a breakthrough here! i don't know how much screentime Neill has remaining until he gets the axe (I suspect very little) but their relations (professional and other) seem to be developed to little for anyone to care wether there's something between them or not.

It's definitely hinted on during Episode 3. You should play the rest of the game.

CAPCOM meeting InvaderGames: Takeuchi San, Hirabayashi San and Kanda San welcomes Andrea Bonsignore Michele Giannone Alessandro Bianchi and Mirko Martini. The subject of the meeting, which took place in the R & D building Capcom, will not be revealed detail but fans of Resident Evil 2 and RE2 Reborn should be happy over what was shown to us during this exclusive visit to development studios. We can not say more but we really want to emphasize that the work done on the remake of Resident Evil 2 is very promising, either from a technical point of view or in relation to new features and additions, we are sure, will satisfy as many old and new fans of the series. Unfortunately, we can not say more about something amazing and well-kept secret that was shown us, but eventually you will discover soon enough. We want to thank Capcom for this meeting, we are sure to have learned a lot this meeting with this company, absolutely leader in its field. We are also honored to learn that we figurerons credits in the remake of Resident Evil 2!

Yeah, nice update , few min ago i read this news on facebook) Also about RE2Remake - My guess it will be full 3d remake as for example in RE4 but with modern graphics, BUT with possibility to switch to fixed camera angles as additional option. They says that the game will satisfied both old and new fans so, beside new features they planned for RE2 Remake, i think that my guess about possibility to switch between full 3d and fixed cameras is not too far from the truth)

new features and additions, we are sure, will satisfy as many old and new fans of the series. These words scare me. I know that most new fans not like a static camera, so there is a big chance that come the shoulder view. In addition, Capcom has tried to please old and new fans, they were saying the same thing when doing RE6, and I fear that they can do the same RE6 shit mess of trying to please everyone. And these guys ... ewww, I hope they not did affect on process and ideas.

Ive always thought the game should have the option for BOTH camera options.
And i have no Problem with Invader games getting involved with this.
