Hi all, i hope you doing well & feeling good !
So, i already completed Re Village once on medium difficulty , and unlocked/found almost everything (treasures , weapons parts, etc.) and spend on this first playthrough about 12 + hours.
Here is my review -
The game is BEAUTIFUL, really, capcom did very good job and in terms of graphics and effects , lightning , shadows, rtx stuff - all this is very beautiful. Game is very good optimized for PC and through the whole game i never experienced any lags, freezes or similar problems at all. I really liked updated combat system from RE7, now when you block enemy's attack you can actually pary it and throw enemy away, which could be very useful in some situations. Also knife now is a weapon which you can use more often thx to this block/parry system , so when you are out of bullets you can still survive with knife only.
Game is not short, i mean maybe it is not THAT long, but 12 hours to explore everything is at least good, Re 3 Remake was barely 6 hours in total... This time game will offer 6 new different locations with their own enemies and bosses, i rly like that all locations were different and in some of them even gameplay was different a bit. I didnt expect that one of the locations will be pure horror experience without any weapons at all, where you need to survive and solve several puzzles, small but solid part of the game. I did like variety of enemies in all locations, the design was very good in my opinion, capcom did decent job with creating new monsters and cratures. Boss battles were entertaining, exept one maybe (later about this one) i like the final battle which i think was creative and hard. I also rly enjoyed one of the final parts of the game where you play as Chris Redfield, who together with his "wolf hound" infiltrating the village. Sequence was unfortunately not too long, i wish it was longer, but whole time you play as Chris was pretty cool.
The story. I mean it wasnt THAT bad, but some characters are written as one dimensional, for example Claudia Beneviento is an interesting villian, but exept few diaries you can find there is 0 info about her, and she didnt take a part in anything exept that horror sequence of the game. Would be interesting to dig in to her story more than just that. Even though at the final part of the game you get an explanation about a lot of things which happen early, i still think that twist with Ethan being dead all the time after and probably during most of the RE7 is just too much for me, together with BSAA zombies, and also Ethan who manage to survive (not for long though , but still) without his heart. Well at least Ethan died like a true hero. Some of the info you get at the final part of the game , is actually interesting but all this twists at the end , there was just too many of them for me...
Alcina Dimitrescu is an interesting character, and i was actually disappointed that she was just a part of the castle chapter and thats it, i mean the boss battle with her was big and all, but i really expected that she will be much bigger part in the whole story and will take a part in much more events than just this. I didn expect her to be main villian for sure, but i still think they kill of her way too soon...
Boss battle with Hisenberg, is something i didnt expected at all, i mean i did expected anything but this, it was fun but sooo out of place, maybe some will enjoy this, and i cant say i hated it , i just thing it was just very lazy creative solution for boss battle... Honestly put Ethan in to the small tank vs some kind of transformer... lol i mean this could happen in MGS (Metal Gear Solid) but here???
The game related way too much on RE4 , honestly i guess 50% of this game consists from the things which were ported here directly from RE4 , i mean this was good & bad at the same time for me. Like you can barricade inside village buildings just like in RE4 , there is a boss - big fish , almost like in a RE4, you can find places and kill some animals , fish for food , just like in RE4 , lol even one of the monster forms of final boss is exactly as final boss in RE4 ! I like when game have some fan service here and there, but when it is like 50 % of game ?! It feels like capcom in terms of creativity are in dead end, they know what works, and trying to put that in every game over and over again. Re7 which i didnt like much, was new and gameplay and story all was new, and honestly story there was much more complete and better thant this one.
I just want that capcom would get a solid writer/writers for their games, and we could get a game with solid story, properly written characters, and good gameplay, thats all i ask... This game is beautiful , gameplay is also good enough, but story, one dimensional charatcers, and some lazy writing, and this twist after twistat the end, didnt get me exited for a few more replays...
My overall score is 7.5 out of 10. You can enjoy this game for what it is i guess, cause really beautiful environments and gameplay with a bit updated battle system can hold you for at least one full playthrough, thats for sure ! The mercinaries mode is also very fun and very enjoyable !
P.S. As it looks like Ada Wong supposed to be a part of RE Village, but she was cut out cause of story complications... damn her appearance would be daaamn cool surprise... too bad they cut her out...
Really cool costume and appearance design though))) You view this and many other design pics and notes in album which is available in bonuses if you pre order this game.
