So I have been trying to remove the "You have died" screen based on the instructions in the following video:
However, I have had no luck past entering the "datextract core.dat" command in the datextractor tool, because it gives no position output, but I have followed every last bit of his instruction to the T both in the video itself and in the description. As such, I can't really do the rest of the steps as far as I can tell, and even when I did try it using the "datinject core.dat .EFF 25" command in the Dat Injector tool, I still got no output or confirmation messages. I disabled my antivirus software and ran everything as an administrator in case that was doing something to stop it all, yet still nothing seems to be working.
What am I missing? Has anyone else had better luck and can help me?

This issue has been discussed and solved. It has to do with your version on java installed. Resort to this post here... residentevilmodding.boards.net/post/105968/threadIf your still having issues, download this version of DatExtract/Repack. These two are standalone .exe's. Drag your desired .DAT file over "datextract.exe" this will bring up Command Prompt shows extracting the files. If you have that file handle garbage error resort to the above linked post to fix that. After you're done replace the file you want in the extracted folder and use the datrepack.exe on the .index file. This will pack all the data back into the .index file then rename this file to .dat So Roomexample.index ---> Roomexample.dat. www.mediafire.com/file/n6os2aer9tiovik/Dat_Tools.zip/fileHope this solves your issue. If not i will try to help to my best extent.

I had not thought to look at the tools themselves when it came to figuring out this problem, as instead I had been searching for threads that tried to mod it the same way. I'll make sure to search tool issues in the future. Thanks again!

As a very experienced modder I highly recommend you DO NOT DO THIS!!!!!. Using a blank EFF file for the Core.dat will essentially break countless other effects including explosion's, fire, dust etc. This is possibly the WORST way you could do this. A better way would be to edit the EFF file and remove the 1 effect used for that Death (either that or remove the texture)... This is just bad modding.

NO, its my responsibility as someone who knows how this file works to tell others that this is a game-breaking thing to do. It's irresponsible to publish this kind of info because people don't understand how it works. This is not a good idea to do.

Sorry for this necro but I've been looking for a way to remove the "you died" effect without also remove most of the UI. If you have time do you mind giving me some ideas on how to do what you suggested, to remove the 1 effect used from the EFF?
Or at least let me know how to open/edit the EFF files so I can try to do some investigations myself.
Also does anyone have the tools linked somewhere else? I'm looking for the datinjector but the links no longer work.

ray314 are you talking about just removing the 'You are dead' text? When you say 'UI' are you referring to the 'Continue Yes/No' part of the interface? Its really not clear what happens after the person dies in this video (another reason this mod is terrible, because we actually don't know what happens after.. like are you even able to retry)? I am going to write a tutorial later on how to find an effect in the core.udas. It should be ready some time later tonight.
