Greetings friends. It is with great pleasure that I bring you Son of Persia's latest development, one of the last outstanding tools required for creating custom stages. I am happy to say that we now have a functional RTP tool!
What is RTP? Basically put, RTP is the path that enemies take to get to you. Without RTP data, enemies would attempt to walk straight towards the player, despite that there may be obstructions preventing this, like walls, cars, mountains etc. This RTP sort of emulates an intelligence by enemies to walk around those obstructions, most often taking the shortest distance. This is accomplished with a matrix of nodes that are all connected.
Instructions are included in the download, and usage is fairly straight forward. Like most other Son of Persia tools, we use and OBJ file in conjunction with a .txt file, however with this tool we really only need to use the OBJ file. Its quite easy to use, but please note that results may vary on several factors:
We must ensure that we have functional SAT data for this to work, and that the SAT sub-objects are comprised of triangles. While we can have working collision data that is made up of cubes that arent even named properly, it is best to follow the rules outlined in the SAT tool tutorial for best results, as there is a direct relationship between SAT and RTP.
I was told recently by an experienced modder that to have functional RTP that the SAT walls should be high. While this isnt always the case, I trust that this info is solid, so if you are having issues, perhaps try raising the Z value for any SAT data that is present in your room.
Please feel free to share your findings here, as this tool isnt always 100 perfect. I mean the tool always works well, its just a matter of tinkering with the data to get it working in-game.
