When I first came to resident evil modding I had no idea what todo or how to unpack the pack files that have all the game files in them. So I wanted to help others that wanted todo it by making a very simple tutorial. 1. Goto REtool and get the REtool made by fluffy 2. Get the list file for the game you want to unpak and put it into your REtool folder with everything else. I will use Resident Evil 3 for this thread 3. Copy your re_chunk_000.pak from the RE3 folder into your REtool folder 4. Right click extract pak and put the name of the list including .list at the end like ive shown.(Its 100% important to add .list) 5. Grab the pak and put it ontop of extract pak and it with unpak it. Viola!! You just extracted all the pak files!! I didnt create any of the tools above or the lists. Happy modding!!

Hi, thanks for the instructions, but I ran into an issue. at step 5 the extract pak opens and says " There are invalidated entries in the PAK file. Try again with a non-modified PAK archive". and cancels it. I'm trying to unpack re8 village. re_chunk_000.pak. I renamed the list. and have uninstalled all my mods. Is there something else I need to do?

You should uninstall all mods first

Is there any way to specify the directory to unpack to, or can you only unpack to the same directory as the retool.exe file?
I looked at the help docs for the command and didn't see any option for specifying the directory, which seems weird.
