You might be know, that original RE5 pink normal map is a modified usual purple normal map. I mean difference in channels: RE5 pink Normal Map | Usual purple Normal Map | R. Channel - filled with white color G. Channel - green channel from usual NM B. Channel - filled with white color A. Channel - red channel from usual NM | R. Channel - usual red channel G. Channel - usual green channel B. Channel - usual blue channel A. Channel - will be added and filled with white color after converting into *.dds DXT5

The game works fine with both types of NM. I made some tests and doesn't noticed any big differences in the game, but i could miss something. So, is there any visual difference between pink NM and purple NM inside the game?

the blue represents natural shading in normal maps... purple is light areas and green midtone.. (the green will often look yellow or orange) Different shades of each will get you amazing results. pulling and pushing some serious detail. half grey known as DuDv normals are used for DirectX 8 refractions. object space acts different to tangent space normal mapping, and are characterized by their full spectrum. The game engine orientates them around an object. I could goon and on... anyway the fact that they use pink could be how the engine handles the map... it will benefit something in the game that a normal, normal doesn't. best way to test this is to try multiple normals.... screenshots and spot thee difference... >>> try these <<<If i was to guess id say pink normals would benefit HDR but that is just a guess. more pink more bloom.. i say this because when i was working with noramals i accidentally ended up with a pink normal during saving, don't know why it saved pink but the HDR shaders worked amazing with it. It wworked that well i decided to use them on everything metal in the game i was modding...

And I can tell for 95% that theres no visual difference between "usual purple normal map" and "pink normal map". Anyway, I will use RE5 pink normal map type.
