Hello everybody,
after being a mod user for years, I want to start creating mods myself. That's why I've now started my first mod project.
The idea is to give the pistol grip of the G19 pistol a mahogany look.
First of all, I would like to mention that the whole project is still in its infancy. At the moment I am at the point that I have made a first texture revision, which I would now like to try out in the game.
Unfortunately it has not been successful so far and I would be very happy to get some help.
Below I have summarized all the steps that I have taken so far:
It is certain that I made a mistake somewhere, but where?!
The current mod archive and the individual modding files can be downloaded via the following link. (Just for security: All files were checked for viruses again before uploading.)
Download-Link: Modding-Archive (MEGA)
Finally, I would like to thank you in advance for any help.
Edit:
Found one of my mistakes. I forgot to create the streaming folder in the mod archive. I have now done this and adjusted the header of the files with HxD.
Now the texture is finally shown in the game. A big step forward. But it looks terrible.
I have to deal with the texture map files again. Every tip is welcome. (The download link was updated with the now 'working' mod archive and the current individual files.)
Edit2:
So, I was able to fix various beginners' mistakes and managed to incorporate the textures into the game. I will create a new post for the current mod archive so that it does not become too confusing.
I will remove the download link in this post. (The content is embarrassing anyway!)

Unfortunately it has not been successful so far and I would be very happy to get some help.
Below I have summarized all the steps that I have taken so far:
1. I downloaded 'RETool' from the thread 'PAK/TEX EDITING TOOL', as did the exhaustive file list for RE3.
2. I got the game files by unpacking 're_chunk_000.pak' with 'extract-pak.bat' from RETool. (Folder: re_chunk_000)
3. From the thread 'RE3 - ULTIMATE FILE LIST' I looked for the corresponding item ID. (For G19 pistol it is 'WP0000')
4. Have found the correct folder in 're_chunk_000' based on the ID. (Folder: re_chunk_000\natives\stm\escape\character\weapon\wp0000\mesh)
5. In the folder above I identified the texture-map-files that need to be edited to change the look of the texture.
- 'wp0000_G19_albmsc.tex.190820018' (I call it Colour-Map with metallic. [It's most likely wrong, i guess. Is it a Diffuse-Map or a Height Map? I don't know.])
- 'wp0000_G19_nrmr.tex.190820018' (I call it Normal-Map with roughness. [I'm pretty sure that this term fits.])
- 'wp0000_G19-atos.tex.190820018' (I call it Specular-Map for reflections. [I'm not quite sure if this term fits.])
6. I added the two RE3-script-files from the Tread 'NOESIS PLUGINS FOR PREVIEWING MESH AND TEX FILES' in the 'plugins/python' folder in the 'Noesis'-folder.
7. With 'Noesis' I converted all 3 files into DDS files.
7. I converted all 3 files with 'texture-conv-all-tex.bat' from 'RETool' into DDS-files.
8. Got Photoshop running and installed the plugins 'Intel® Texture Works Plugin for Photoshop' and 'NVIDIA Texture Tools Exporter'.
9. I started image editing in Photoshop:
- Since the new pistol texture should get a smooth wooden pistol grip, I first edited the normal map (nrmr.dds). I smoothed the pistol grip texture by hand. Finally, I deleted the existing alpha channel and created a new one that is just black.
- Then I edited 'albmsc.dds' and inserted the mahogany wood texture on the pistol grip. (The exact procedure of image processing would go beyond the scope here.)
- I left the 'atos.dds' untouched.
- I saved the two edited files as 'Intel Texture Works DDS' files with the following settings:
- Texture Type: Color + Alpha
- Compression: BC7 8bpp Fast (Linear, DX11+)
- Mip Maps: Auto Generate
10. I converted the two DDS files back into tex files with 'texture-conv-all-dds.bat' from RETool.
11. I created a Winrar mod archive for "Fluffy Manager". RAR-file was saved in the folder 'Games\RE3R\Mods'. Mod was activated in Fluffy Manager.
12. Game started to check texture. Unfortunately, it didn't work, the G19 texture has not changed.
13. Go to residentevilmodding.boards.net and aks for support.
