First post. Full disclosure, I am completely modding illiterate but am willing to learn. I have done some reading around the modding tutorial forums to get an idea of what is possible.
I Love the game, but a few small details kind of drive me crazy regarding ammunition choices some of the weapons use in the game. Being a detail oriented person, and being into firearms personally you notice these things.
First big thing i noticed was that the MP5 is using .380 rounds, when it should be 9mm.
The MQ 11 is the correct calibre, but there is absolutely no reason this would be in a police station in 1998 unless it was in an evidence room. It is a 70s era weapon not used by police departments. It certaibly wouldnt be in one of their issue weapons lockers. I would like to replace it with the MP5 which is in widespread use in police departments for many years at that point.
Is it possible to do these things with the hex editor? Or would this be in text or database style files. I can nitpick more details, but figured I should start with simple things first. If someone could let me know if I'm on the right path that would be appreciated.
Kudos on all the amazing mod work done for this game so far.

So I have made some headway in learning a little about modding some of the .msg files for the game. I can convert to text, edit, and repack with my displayed text changes showing up in game. What I am trying to figure out is the location of the weapon attributes. I know nothing of files containing information on the models. Are attribute information like magazine capacity or rate of fire located with the files contained in the models? I've been unpaking some of the pak files just to go through and maybe get lucky finding this info in some kind of logical place. But with so many files, and formats I'm trying to learn to explore, this isn't getting me far very quickly.
Looking for some help as to where to look for this information in the files, so I can begin to explore possibilities of creating a weapon realism mod. Below is an example of something I would like to do to give some context.
The VP 70 needs to go. It was a 70's weapon that was more of a novelty due to being a very early example of a polymer framed pistol. A few South American Militaries, did adopt it in its Machine Pistol variant. In the US, anyone who has one, has it for collector purposes, it's a safe queen so to speak. I would like to give Leon the Glock 19 as his personal weapon he would start with at the gas station. It was very popular and common in 1998 throughout the US, and still is. Maybe picking up a service Beretta when he gets to RPD in one of the storage lockers on the first floor. Could easily use the model for one of the Samurai Edge pistols, editing attributes to give it the 15 round capacity. I can do the glock superficially through existing model replacement mods, and can do some text editing in the MSG files. But would like to edit the magazine capacity to its correct 15, and possibly remove the Matilda upgrades scattered throughout the police station.
Any direction as to where i should look for those files would be greatly appreciated.
