I see a lot of mods prove that they have the potential to take this game to the next level, yet choose not to. What I mean by that is, with item randomization mods, why hasn't someone created a version that doesn't break the game's pacing or narrative structure. For instance, swapping the locations of only starting items with other starting items and guest-house items with other guest-house items and in a way that won't trap you or prevent you from experiencing the same flow of the game. Like, if you were to make ink ribbons and self defense weapons random and interchangeable, but carefully have specific replacement for key items that match other available key items.
It's almost like a board-game in that way, replacing the pieces to different locations at the start but getting the same pattern of breaking things down. I always look to Dark Souls when I think of NEWGAME+ or it's subsidiaries. A change like this would be able to make NEWGAME+ actually feel like a new game without having prior knowledge of which item will be exactly where. While it's true it will simply replace the item with another one in another area, it will still change the pacing and directions you have to go and the enemies you have to face. You might not be able to strategically go around those dogs now, maybe the dog collar is now on the east side where the plant killer usually is. Maybe the plant killer is now where the lighter was. But no flipping MO disks instead of ink ribbons and insanity like that.
Also, is it possible to add more zombies? It seems like if people do something, it's never with lore based rhyme or reason. But I feel like if it's possible, adding 1 zombie extra to a few areas would make the game pretty cool to go through again on top of the new locations. It's nearly an impossible game to replay with the same original feeling because of memory, but with a mod with just one of these changes, I feel like newgame+ could be pretty awesome. Even if they are static movements, a new item layout to keep the game fresh would go a long way.
