I made trainer functions for doing this many years ago but I forgot the steps in actually doing it, so I'll write a short tutorial for it here so I can remember again in the future.
Requirements:
- Fluffy Manager 5000: residentevilmodding.boards.net/thread/507/ - This is the trainer letting you use more than 2 characters.
- Weapons extracted: fluffyquack.com/RE6/mods/by-sectus/Weapons%20Extracted.rar - This is to avoid a crash when using weapons which normally would be available in a campaign (ie, Piers' rifle in Leon's campaign)
- Wilsonso's model patch: residentevilmodding.boards.net/thread/391/ - This is to avoid a crash when using characters in levels where they normally wouldn't be used (ie, Piers in Leon campaign). This can be skipped if you only ever use characters the game expects (ie, Leon in Leon campaign).
Step 1 (host):
- Run Fluffy Manager 5000.
- The host needs to have port 9950 forwarded.
- To host, click on options->network functions->start network server.
Step 1 (client):
- Run Fluffy Manager 5000.
- Clients join the host by clicking on options->network functions->join network server.
Step 2 (host):
- Run RE6.
- Choose any chapter (or continue). I can't remember if the game has to be set to public or not, or if private works. Set to public if in doubt.
- Don't click on "start" yet.
Step 2 (client):
- Run RE6.
Step 3 (host):
- As host you'll want to set 2 player slots to be AI driven except your own character (in this example, we'll assume you want to play Leon campaign and you play as Leon yourself).
- Trainer->Character pokes->2P->AI Assume Control - This forces AI to keep control of 2P.
- Trainer->Character pokes->3P->AI Assume Control - This forces AI to keep control of 3P.
- Trainer->Character pokes->3P->Change costume->Leon Asia - This forces 3P to be Leon in his Asia outfit.
- Click on start so you get ingame.
Step 3 (client):
- One by one, each player should join the host (just do it via Steam).
- Once you're all joined, you want each player to assume control of a character (decide beforehand, who gets to be who).
- For the player who wants to be 2P, that player selects Trainer->Character pokes->2P->Assume Control
- And then the last player chooses 3P by selecting Trainer->Character pokes->3P->Assume Control
Step 4 (host):
- Choose "Restart checkpoint"
- You should now be playing 3-player campaign.
Note that doing this has a whole bunch of issues:
- Players who aren't Leon and Helena will get left behind (because they can't open co-op doors, for instance). Those other players will need to occasionally teleport to catch up: Trainer->Character pokes->Teleport to player
- Some levels will simply crash when using certain characters.
- If a player dies, the game will softlock for 3P or other players.
- You might encounter other weird issues.
So yeah, this is a fun thing to mess around with, but it's fiddly to set up and it's also very broken in some ways. Don't do this unless you're prepared to do deal with some frustration.
