New and exciting polygons to help you jerk off are all well and good, but I wish there were more gameplay-affecting mods or documentation on what can be accomplished.
I feel like most of what I want to see would have to actually be accomplished through a cheat table, and I've tried to figure out some way to implement the following suggestions but to no avail - I was able to figure out cheat engine stuff back when games were relatively small and simple, but I'm lost in the code. Basically here's my wishlist for the game, which is generally just to make it harder and less predictable:
1. double enemy health. I'm not in danger of running out of ammo any more even on hardcore. I can self-limit by saying "no gunpowder" etc. but that's not really the same thing.
2. faster enemies, or enemy behavior tree that prioritizes their fastest and most aggressive routines
3. elimination of the 'magic pixel' effect on player health. Right now, as long as your health is above a certain threshold, a single attack will never kill you no matter how strong it is -- it will only bring your hp down to 1. So if you're just in caution, who cares? You'll never die if you're hit. I spent a few hours in the cheat engine this morning trying to isolate what does this calculation and see if I could suspend it, but all I accomplished was making my character immortal even though their hp read '0.'
4. addition/swapping of functioning ghost survivor enemies in the main campaign without having to first load a ghost survivors scenario. Did you know that swapping ghost survivor enemies into the main campaign actually does work, you just have to load ghost survivors first every time you play? It's true! And annoying.
5. mixing of rooms between scenarios - this seems like the least possible to me, but how does RE2 use its room structures? Would it be possible to switch files to have the game load, say, HUNK's version of certain (non-plot-essential) rooms to get more enemies in the game?
6. forcing the game to use Hardcore rank difficulties in Standard mode. Autosaves don't add to difficulty they lessen some annoyance.
If anyone has ideas about how to implement any of these, let me know. Some of them seem like they should be doable (others not so much).
