Exactly how many shots does it take to Kill G5/ Gfinal

I've been practicing my second scenario / B scenario runs lately and have figured out that if in Claire's game if you don't use the minigun on G4 (i was practicing a knife only technique on that boss) it takes exactly 500 chaingun shots + 2 hand grenades to kill G5/ G final. I was wondering if anyone knew how many shots it took to kill him with Leon? In my save I blew all my magnum ammo on G3 and went into Gfinal with 2 rockets, 7 Magnum shots, and that didn't kill him. I have to go to work now and won't be able to retest for several hours but was curious if anyone here had toyed around with it and knew exactly what amount of ammo was needed. I only ask for future playthroughs so I can go into the final boss battle completely prepared and min max my game.
