Update, October 24, 2018 Menu Improvements, v. 1.41: Updated to add Chinese text and font files to common.arc for compatibility with the recent update.
(Japanese status)
(Spanish)
(no loading icon)
(Note: Only tested the first of these.)
(Default load backgrounds)
Update, May 16, 2016 Icon Improvements, v.1.01: Added missing Gallery Key icon, readjusted the size of the Fuse Unit. www.mediafire.com/download/hcdcuplc8tc0hhl/Icon_Improvements.zip Update, May 14, 2016 Menu Improvements, v.1.4: Nothing much changed, but added a version to MediaFire that uses the default font. If you were happy with the 1.3 release, then you don't need to re-download. GameCube-style font: www.mediafire.com/download/t4cqph9g789j685/Menu_Improvements_%28GameCube_style_font%29.zipJapanese-style statuses (capitalized "Fine," "Caution," etc.): www.mediafire.com/file/ifdzy09f3jecdos/Menu_Improvements_%28GameCube_style_font%29_-_JP_Status.7zDefault font: www.mediafire.com/download/xf333ws71pu333g/Menu_Improvements_%28default_font%29.zipIcon Improvements, v.1.0 ( new): Icons for all items except for the lockpick and the x-rays have been replaced. I have not extensively tested this, so if icons appear cut off, wonky, or otherwise require improvement, please let me know. Previous updates Update, v.1.3: Replaced the font for numbers in the inventory. Minor alterations to the font, map screen.
Update, v.1.2.1: Fixed minor font spacing issues.
Update, v.1.2: Adjusted the font in menus slightly for consistency.
Update, v.1.1: Added a font that attempts to closely resemble the original GameCube font. Added a gradient to the the global_ID_HQ .tex to make text more legible.
Should be compatible with the mod manager. A few notes: - In the GameCube version, hovering over a selection (e.g, "yes," "equip") would, not unlike the main menu in the remastered version, highlight the font, changing it from grey to white. Unfortunately, in the remastered version, such selections are never greyed out, although the fog effect is still present. It doesn't look like I can change this, at least just by editing the .tex file.
- As tedious as it is, I've only replaced those characters which show up in the English version of the game. So, for example, accented characters still use the default font. I recommend using Bunny's font if you use a non-English, Latin alphabet language. Simply use ARCTool to unpack common.arc (using the pc-rehd.bat) and replace font00_ex_jpn_00_ID with his or any other font, and then repack the folder back into common.arc.

No problem! Also finished a playthrough this morning with Chris, discovered that the Gallery Key was missing and that the Fuse Unit's icon was too big, so I added a slight update.

It looks to me like icons are stored in a different file (icon_pc_00_ID_HQ), which I assume is all that mod changes. What's the reason for why you can't edit arc files? I'd rather avoid re-releasing someone else's mod if I can, so if you just need help figuring out how to do it, I'd be happy to assist.

Actually, I took a second look: that mod installs to the arcPC folder, not the arc folder. I just tried, and you should be able to install it alongside my own mod without having to edit anything.

Well, first, as I mentioned in the opening post, I didn't make any edits to accented characters, so I would use Bunny's font mod for that. As for the menu edits, if you're okay with things still being in English (e.g., "yes/no," "check item," those sorts of things), then I think all that needs to be done is repackage the menu screen from subscr_eng.arc to the appropriate arc, and ditto for the map file. Let me see if I can't just upload it here in a few. EDIT: Okay, got it working, but you know what, it shouldn't take me super long to add accented characters, let me see if I can't do that quick for the font.
EDIT 2: Okay there are a lot more than I remembered, this may take a bit.
EDIT 3: Okay, yeah, no, no, never mind. The problem with the font is that, for better or worse, Capcom uses images for each letter. And they put all the letters on one .tex file, with very specific spacing and such. It took me a million years just to get the characters I did get aligned correctly and such. Again, best bet: Just use Bunny's mod for that. In the meantime, here's this: www.mediafire.com/file/983n6v3kloplf17/Menu_Improvements_%28GameCube_style_font%29_-_SPA.7zBy way of clarification: Things like the menu and map are literally just image files. The game isn't loading a font for something like "examine," "explored/exploring," etc. It's all just an image. In any event, this should work, and I recommend Bunny's font mod if you want a better font otherwise for regular text.

I hate the font they used in the remaster, thank you so much for this. I have one request however, if it's possible, can you change the font on the status screen that says Fine, Caution, Danger, etc. to all caps? That's how it was in the original GameCube version and how it still is when you change the language to Japanese but I want it to be in caps on English too.

I hadn't noticed that. I think it should be easy to do, though, especially if it's still like that in the Japanese menu, since I think that means I can just cut and paste from that. However, there is one possible hiccup, that being the color of the font: I still haven't figured out how to edit colors properly, since some of the .tex files don't convert correctly using ARCTool. I'll give it a go, though. EDIT: Easy. Only tested in-game with Fine and Caution statuses (by the way, I can't seem to recall when or if PANIC is ever used), but everything looked all right with them, so it should be good to go. www.mediafire.com/file/ifdzy09f3jecdos/Menu_Improvements_%28GameCube_style_font%29_-_JP_Status.7z

Oh my god it works perfectly! Thank you so much, you're awesome! By the way, I had no idea PANIC was a status effect, I don't recall it ever being used in-game. Maybe it was used as a placeholder? Anyway, thanks again!
