The issue for me on the matter of the inclusion of Alice, is that like most film adaptations , the "Resident Evil" Film Series deviates from its source material. Not only a bit, but majorly. Taking huge liberties with the plot, characters and the atmosphere of the games. In turn since the beginning of the film series in 2002, the games in turn have been adapted by the developers to be essentially more and more like the films. No doubt thinking of profits of the films, they made the games with heavy focus on action, explosions and cut scenes. If I wanted an action movie I would buy a DVD, not pay 60$ for a game and have nearly 20 GB sitting on my hard drive.
I will admit that I find the latter action titles more generally fun for myself (RE:5 and RE:6) due to the co-op and the aesthetic beauty of Chris Redfield. (Yes I am singing "Macho Man"!) However I have to respect and appreciate the atmospheres of the RE: Remake and RE: Zero as they were about a lurking vibe and mostly a story (even if it is a bad one). RE:2 was a more serious version of RE:1 and even though that had its cheesiness for me, it had it's scary moments for when we were younger.
Alice is of another canon like some inter-dimensional Marvel or DC Universe manner. To include her in a game is kinda out of the question for me, because although RE is verging on sci-fi proportions, it hasn't gotten to "that" level of sci-fi in its canon yet. Marvel vs Capcom is a non canon series, so is ORC. So if Alice is in a game she'd better be in a non canon game too. As a character Alice would not be bringing anything entirely new to the game series as all her attributes are/were in other characters at this point. To include her in the main canon is to really negate the apparent canon, such as Sherry's parents being dead or the apparent death of Albert Wesker. I mean if you're gonna add a non canon character as is, without any changes, then who's to say that the rest of the established canon is any less malleable. It'd be more appropriate for Milla Jovovich to play as a different character if she was to be in the canon games. Ultimately Capcom would have to pay her a large sum of money if she was to be in a game, unless she was generous to do something for free. But she does have bills to pay like everyone else.
Anyway I don't mean to offend people who enjoy the character, I'm just voicing my opinion.
For all we know, "Umbrella Corps" is an episodic novella where the Villains tell their side of things throughout the series with the first book being: The Diary of Carla Radames.
