I liked Jake too.
I cried when Jake lowered down his price to only 50 $.. why Jake! 50 million dollars ffs, why leave it (T.T)
Only one that deserved to die was Helena. Leon should have let Adam eat her. Or Ada should have shot Helena with crossbow, not her sister. Maybe leon should have killer her in the catherdeal when Helena said "Its better if I show you". Helena was so selfish and getting Leon in deeper trouble.

Hey? Nothing wrong with Jake, I named my youngest son after him. The way he fit into the story was wrong. He wanted to keep his father's pose, One thing he could not do. He ended up being a nice guy, But it is already in the refrigerator of Capcom.

I don't think any of the main cast deserved to die, since they all had their moments of narrow-minded fuckery except maybe Piers and Sherry. Really, if you think a character deserves to die for being selfish, I have concerns about your age.
Also Piers probably did want to die considering he was infected with a biological virus that was LITERALLY MELTING HIM.
