If I recall, the manual for Resident Evil 2 Platinum (which is in a box somewhere I'm not inclined to dig through) specifically says Claire received some training from Chris. I've yet to figure out why Chris has marksmanship training since he's a pilot, and the US Air Force isn't known for shooting people with rifles (making me think perhaps Capcom confused them with the British Special Air Service, a group of men whose familiarity with planes Tom Clancy describes as occasionally either jumping out of or blowing them up), so there's that too. As for Leon, we can assume he's been through a Police Academy so presumably at some point he was taught how to defend himself. For that matter, a lot more is made of in certain areas of the fandom than by Capcom itself that Ethan is a completely unskilled civilian. Ethan maintains the proper stance when shooting a handgun (most people would be inclined to teacup, a la every fucking Valve game ever but Ethan adopts something close to the traditional Weaver-stance when you shoot) and has very good trigger discipline when equipping and walking with a weapon drawn, something someone who had no previous familiarity with firearms would be unlikely to do. I'm inclined to believe Ethan at the very least has carried a handgun for self defense. It's possible he left it in his car when he reached the Bakers', since he's going to be breaking and entering anyway, and doing that with a weapon is an even worse idea if you get caught by the authorities. I also reference what he says when you find the first 1911. He doesn't exclaim in joy at having found a gun, the same way someone who didn't know guns would (a lot of people, at least in US, tend to ascribe a mythical amount of power to handguns). Instead, he just kind of grunts and says "Alright, fine" which to me means "Great, I can deal with this I guess." He's also able to reload one-handed, something that's very heavily stressed in defensive shooting schools but isn't something the average person can do. Thus, Ethan most likely has some skill with a gun. I actually read the manual that came with the original release of RE2 before writing that post- there's no mention of it in the description. Overseer has given me a reason to replay RE2 again in search of the exchange that confirms it, however the point is, I suppose, that with training or not both Leon and Claire in RE2 are regular people that start the game not prepared or even expecting the things to come (hell, even in RE1 the highly trained and experienced STARS operatives had their moments of ineptitude) so it added an extra layer of drama. From 3 onwards character reactions were more and more distant and detatched especially later in the series where entire organizations focused on battling outbreaks were created made the games less about survival scenarios and more like search and destroy missions. With this in mind both in terms of setup and player character RE7, I believe, is in fact more in line with the "roots" of the series.

So, can we extract and re-import edited texture files yet?
I wanna make my "PS button mod" and "Bio7 > RE7 title screen mod" for my 2 copies of Biohazard 7.

Honestly I wouldn't be able to tell you if it's the English version. The last time I played Bio2 was two years ago and it was the JP version, so while I do usually remember things correctly - Bio2, Bio3 are the ones I don't have completely memorized in comparison to the first one or a few others and the other side of it is that I also have all of the drama CDs, guidebooks, manhua and so-on too that could have influenced my memory so that's why I didn't specifically say the game because I don't 100% remember what the source was as I'd have otherwise linked it within the topic. You've a point though regarding the 'action hero' thing going on, but even with more regular characters the ones that they've given are kind of bland and not very memorable. Like there's reasons in the fact that Bio2 was popular and had comics made in the first place because the characters had things that made them stand out and stay in the players' minds. The only things I can think regarding Ethan is - references to other horror stuff made in 7, people on the forums making remarks about Ethan having a babyface and a giraffe neck. Mia? Uncanny valley and not being sure if they were going for a Ju-on effect with her hair or if it's just bad physics at play. Jack? Jack is the only one I can really recall and that's only from the sheer repetition and memes of "Welcome to the family, son!" but even then visually it's all a blur in my mind, if that makes any sense? I don't know, maybe I'm just tired but that's pretty much how all of 7 is like. Like a blur of noises, but nothing sticks out in particular. (Makes me think of FFVIII's Compression of Time with it all just getting mashed together but even then there was stuff that stood out...)

Cheers. Hopefully I can get hold of the RE7 PS4 button files too, would help me to make the mod look super close to the PS4 version.
But failing that I have RE5 PS button files I can use for it.

That's kinda the point I was trying to make- the amount of suplemental material used to expand the characters over the years simply cannot compare to a character with only one game under his belt. Still, going only by the games how much of this info is common and not something someone with your knowledge knows? I did hear about Chris training Claire from somewhere, and while it is logical, it was an outside source, hence my troubles with recollecting these facts from the games themselves. To be honest when it comes to new characters I stopped caring after Revelations 1- I like Parker, but would I mind if he never returned? Probably not. All of RE6's new characters were either bland, boring, unsympathetic or didn't fit the game at all. However when it comes to Revelations 2 I detested nearly every new character and even some of the returning ones (looking at Claire here). In terms of characterisation this is simply the worst mainline RE game (I do count Revelations series as mainline).

Claire had a knife sheath on RE2, and she was more than willing to grab a gun when inside the police car with Leon, I really doubt she was all that untrained.

Yes, and some women in the US carry guns in their handbags for self defense, does that make them any more special? She came prepared, and she knew how to handle a knife and several firearms efficiently. She starts off her game with the exact set of abilities that Leon gets - a professionally trained cop, and while his field experience is very little he manages through. Their wardrobe also doesn't reflect their "everyman" trait you guys attribute to them. Leon especially, with that padded overalls police suit of his.
