So recently I found out you can change re5 gold edition to the GFWL version (a.k.a. the beta version) and I found out that GFWL version isn't windows 8 compatible (just my luck) and I was wondering if there was a way to fix this (won't load the game up at all after I click launch dx9 or dx10 version), I know there is an older post for it but due to it being an older post everything is outdated and none of the links take me to anything just pages that can't be found. I don't even know how to sign in with windows live so if you could help me there too I'd greatly appreciate it.
Edit: If it is compatible with windows 10 I would consider changing to windows 10 if anyone is 100% sure it is.

Here's an incredibly stupid question, but have you tried running it in compatibility mode? Or as an admin?

I have ran it as admin but I have no idea what compatibility mode is for it.

windows 8, I said it in the post .-. That's not what they meant. If you right click the game's executable files and go under properties, there is a "compatibility" tab. You can click on that and tell the game to run in a mode that would be compatible with either Windows 7, Windows Vista, or Windows XP. And I don't know about resi 5, but other GFWL games work fine for me on windows 10, excluding the online support of course.

Also I've never had a gfwl game before so I didn't know the process of doing the compatibility. I'll give her a go and see what happens and thanks for the info.
EDIT: I ran the compatibility as windows 8 and it did not work ;-;

Use compatibility as Windows 7. I use to have windows 10 and all I had to do is run it as admin and run it as Windows 7 and it fixed it right up.

I tried that as well :/ I changed the compatibility of run.exe, launcher.exe, re5dx9.exe, and re5dx10.exe all to windows 7, then that didn't work, then I tried checking all of them with run as admin. and didn't work, then I tried what someone else said and changed the compatibility to Windows XP Service Package 3 and it didn't work, and then with the Windows XP SP3 on I also tried running as admin and yet nothing worked. I have some other options; someone said try downloading windows 7 and then another person said get windows 10, now I would love to just resolve this issue the easiest way and I have no idea if downloading a new windows would delete all my files for the new windows and have to redownload steam and all of my games (which I would really want to avoid doing this) so if there's a real easy way to do this I'd love to know x3
Hint: I'm a bit stupid from tie to time so in situations like this I basically need my hand held through the whole process, if you are willing to go through the boring process of making a step by step tutorial it be greatly appreciated but I'm not forcing anyone to do so.

If you go through the windows 10 upgrade, none of your files will be lost. Though from the sounds of it you're running DX10 RE5 anyway, which I wouldn't really recommend in a windows 8 or 10 envrionment since they prefer to work with DX11 and DX12 respectively, though retain entire compatibility with DX9. I've seen DX10 games work well with windows 10, but I never bothered with windows 8, so I'm unfamiliar with its problems and shortcomings. Windows 10 has been a reliable and stable OS for me so far and I would recommend it as someone who repairs computers in terms of both software and hardware respectively. Though if you do not want to delete your files, I would suggest going through with the windows 10 upgrade rather than downgrading to windows 7. But at the same time I need to stress something and want to make it entirely clear. Upgrading rather than doing a clean install of windows is usually a bad idea, since leftover crud from the old windows installation bogs down the system and its registry. But for the moment (until you can get some kind of back up media like an external hard drive) Upgrading would be the safest bet, keeping all of your files and settings intact. In order to upgrade all you would need to do is click on the notification in your task bar and select upgrade my PC, and check off "keep all my files and settings". Leave it alone for half an hour to an hour and profit. If you would like to do a clean install of windows 7, or 10, shoot me a PM and I will give you an in depth process on how to get it working as quickly as possible.

Actually I'm using dx9 which seems to be what the modding community is based around. Also I'll try upgrading to windows 10 to see how it is, I know there's a way to revert back to windows 8 if it seems to get buggy. I know how to upgrade so I should be fine I'll make sure it keeps all my files and settings. And thanks for the tip.
