_____Yep, it's more lab notes from the edge of sanity. THIS time,
it's down and dirty with RE Zero's MUSIC! Damn, if I knew this
much about moddin' tunes before, woulda had my way with RE6's
tunes back when I gave a bucket of warm spit about that game.
So anyway, here's how I did it. And it works. You'll see!
_____By the byway, Bunny gave me the openin' tips on how to
get started on these shenanigans. Me, all I hadda do was friggin'
update my Audacity version! Now I'm cookin'. And if there's an
EASIER and SIMPLER way to do this that always works, throw yer
commentary into the comments section. This version has
always worked for me. (Meaning, doing this, the game hasn't kicked
me in the baby-maker and told me to pack sand.)
-->Break out the gag ball, memorize your safe word, and prep the
padded handcuffs! Hope you like pain, 'cause that's what modding
RE Zero music is.
--Wait a second, how'm I supposed to use my safe word with that
thing in my mouth? Anyway... Mmph!
SIMPLE INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Get metadata from the ORIGINAL TRACK to be replaced.
2. Save ORIGINAL metadata into the REPLACEMENT TRACK (*.ogg format).
3. Change the REPLACEMENT TRACK to match the number of tracks matching
ORIGINAL TRACK, rename it with the *.sngw file extension.
--Copy it into the game's directory. See if it flies!
COMPLICATED, MULTI-PAGE INSTRUCTIONS:
-->Too complicated? Don't think you can do it?
Well, Pennywise the Clown has something to say
about that:
--Now put away your tissues, feed the Play-Doh to the
pit bull, and flush the milk and cookies down the toilet.
Let's get to modding!
-->BASICALLY, you're changing music to have six tracks and
swapping the metadata--reformatting the music to have the
same format AND metadata as the game's tune.
-->First! Get the LATEST incarnation of Audacity. Should have
*.ogg support. If not, go get the plugin.
Where's the music?
...Steam\steamapps\common\Resident Evil 0\nativePC\sound\bgm\source
--Holee jumpin' jimminy! 122 files! Don't worry... Most of it is just ambient
environment noise. The MUSIC is "bgm_??.sngw"! See that? Y'only got
55 files to really worry about.
0. Prepping to mod music.
-->Use audacity v2 or the LATEST incarnation thereof. That, and rename
ogg files to match the tail in the RE Zero game (sngw).
--Under the "Edit" menu, go to Preferences...
-Click on Import/Export. "When exporting tracks to an audio file..."
-USE CUSTOM MIX.
-Also, turn ON the Metadata Editor dialog option
for export.
-->To REPLACE a track in the game, do this!
1. Steal the original music file info!
a. Load the ORIGINAL FILE into Audacity.
--Under the FILE menu, go to "Edit Metadata Tags."
--Save the tag as a template.
b. Note how many tracks there are! Good, 'cause
you'll need to make music with that many custom
mono tracks.
2. Mutilate the music until it's like the original.
(Sort of what happened to Taylor Swift's face with
childhood cosmetic surgery.)
a. Load the replacement music file into ANOTHER Audacity
window.
b. Change stuff!
--Split stereo tracks into mono tracks 'til you've
got the same amount of tracks as the original.
Chop that sh_t up like Jason swingin' a machete on
dope-smokin' campers.
--Rename EACH mother-forkin' TRACK to reflect the name of
each in the original.
-Might be six tracks. Might be more. Keep choppin'.
--Sample Format: Set EACH TRACK to match the sample format from
the original.
(Click on the track title. See "Sample Format"? Yeah...)
--Set "Project Rate" at the bottom of the window to match the
original.
-If ya hadda change the project and sample rates, be
sure to tweak the SPEED of the music to match the original.
Otherwise, it might sound like chipmunks or drunk baritones sang
it, depending if the rate's faster or slower.
3. Metatag, Export and Rename.
a. Export as *.ogg! Do NOT export as *.sngw. (It'll get jacked up.)
b. Click yes to that funny-looking custom tracks chart.
c. LOAD the Metadata template from the original.
d. After exporting, rename the file to match the original...
4. Usage.
a. Copy it into the game's directory. Have a backup of your
original before you do!
b. Try it out in-game, where you know it'll be. (If it won't
play, make sure the exported *.ogg file is playable outside the
game.)
c. Send Kickstarter funds for Justin Bieber's Viking Funeral (while
he's still alive) to...
