IMO, the only RE game that had identity crisis was RE6. Not even good voice cast and high production couldn't help it. I've beaten the whole game once, then played Leon's and Chris's campaign with my sister and some solo mercs and that was it... After that, I just uninstalled it. Even mods, or the fact that Leon was there couldn't make me play it. But, RE4... Well, I'm still playing it today. And, I agree with DarkSamus that the only RE game better then RE4 is RE2.

Ok first off all certain members need to keep in mind that this site encourages mature posts and belittling others opinions is frowned upon by the staff so any more of that and warns will be handed out, lets keep things civil.
Secondly, regarding the RE4 debate, I actually liked RE4 a lot, although Its probably known around the forum now that I'm a HUGE fan of the old survival horror resident evil game and I am not a big fan of the later entries like RE5 or RE6 I still found RE4 to be a enjoyable game that actually did offer some good survival horror at various points in the game such as the castle segments and the Regeneradors on the island and the combat was top notch to me at the time and it was great having Leon Kennedy back as a badazz agent with skills to back it up.
All that being said however I really was not expecting for that to become the standard for the series, and I certainly did not expect that they would dial the over the top action up and the survival horror down with later entries.
I still maintain that the game we should have gotten was Resident Evil 3.5, from what I saw and heard about the game it would have been a better game IMO that what we got but that is just me basing my opinion off of the fact that it looked a lot more survival horror and I prefer that for my Resident Evil games over all.
But I do admit the whole ghosts and things within the game would have felt weird to me lol, Resident Evil has always been rooted in bioterrorism and not the supernatural.

I think this disscussion is relatively tame, but it could be just me. @commambershep could you explain why you feel RE4 has an identity crysis? I think the game is exactly what it wants to be.

There's a lot of disconnect between the attempted spoopy, tense atmosphere (usually the numerous, almost annoying amount of ominous leadups) and the QTE laden cutscenes + mandatory mass battles for plot progression.
I'll admit that RE5 and RE6 had that too, a little, but RE5 and RE6 were trying exclusively to be action games with a small dash of horror. It's been several years and I'm still not sure what RE4 was trying to be.

Oh, a little fun-note: When I tried RE2 for the first time, Leon got killed by that very first zombie when he and Claire are separated... I simply couldn't find my way around it...

Anyway, there have been many long-lived video game franchises that bounced back from an abysmal entry or a faulty product. If that was the case with RE4 and given the status of the series at the time - you can be damn sure there would have been a RE5 game. Therefore, I deemed that argument weak.

Yeah, I was going to write something lenghty and substantial, but my pc froze and I lost everyting I've written in the last 15 mins, so screw it, short version.
After all those shitty sequels the franchise has spawned it's pretty sure that it's here to stay wether they release a turd or a classic, so we ain't discovering anything new here.
So far every 3 games or so they've been revising the series, so maybe with 7 they'll make it feel fresh again. Or with the RE2 remake, I don't know. Whatever comes it can't be (hopefuly) as bad as the last 2 games...

I'm sorry but your coming off a little strong feel like you need to express every emotion no one is making you appreciate resident evil 4 but it is a fantastic game ! But you need to think about capcoms time and effort and money they loaded into making resident evil 4 they was going to give Leon magic powers but instead made DMC I'm sure that if someone slatted a mod you made because they simply didn't like it and all the effort and time you put into that mod I'm 100% sure you will be very offended by it now im going to quote you "this isn't a personal attack" kisses -A

If the port is solid and Mercenaries Reunion is a hit (Though there is no reason it shouldn't be) I'll certainly pick this up when the physical copy hits the stores July 12, I already own the game on 3 platforms so...if I really want to play it for the next 2 weeks I'll just boot it up on PC lol

They recycled alot of RE4 into RE5. I played RE5 and RE6, before RE4 and I can't say I enjoyed RE4 a whole lot because it felt like RE5 but more out to lunch, and frankly I can see where RE5 got it's stupid'er aspects from. But that's my opinion so meh.
I doubt they would really add anything new with re-releasing RE4 for the "untieth" time. They didn't really add anything to the PC re-release so why would they add something now, when RE5 the bigger selling game already has a new mode?
If they did, then I'd feel kinda ticked the new consoles are getting better love than PC.
