Another entry to the Drag-on Dragoon/Drakengard and NieR lot, while the first game out of this 'universe' is a bit infamous for things that happen in the ending , NieR being more known for it's lovely soundtrack - I just wanted to see if there was anyone on here with an interest in these games, especially with Automata on the way.
I'm excited to see Platinum working on this, though it would be awesome if sanodg did some music or arrangements for the title too.

The Trailer looks so far really interesting, i like the musik, reminds me of Zone of the enders. I don`t played a Nier game so far but Drakengard 3 with a friend. Gameplay and enemies are enjoyable, but slaughtering innocent women for no reason for the most part of the game was really... unpleasant. But the absolute worst thing about this game are Dito, Cent, Decadus and Octa. I really, really, really, hate those guys especially Dito. I would try Nier, but i fear that it is full of Dito and Cent characters.... they are so annoying, backstabbing, narcissistic, weak cowards with no sense of justice. So is Drakengard 3 the exception or have all these games the same tone of Story and Charackters? edit. this sounds way to negative... so beside those charackters it was a fun game.

To be honest, I haven't actually gotten around to going through DoD3 properly - I've heard people complaining about things but the general thing with the director of it, the first game and NieR is that his golden rule is that he never makes the same game twice. There are plot points that I'm aware of that tie into the original game, NieR and things to the sequel (which he did not direct). If you were expecting more along the lines of Final Fantasy type party members then this isn't really the series I'd recommend playing. If you did a quick search on say - Furiae, Arioch or Leonard in particular from DoD/Drakengard then you'd see the sort of characters you'll find within the series. NieR, however is quite fun. You have a couple of younger child characters so you can expect to hear a little bit of whining or dumb conversations (Emil: "What if we bought him a whole bunch of knives? Then we'd be rich!" during a quest to obtain a blade drop from an enemy) but characters like Kaine and Grimoire Weiss balance it out. People that enjoyed NieR, but hadn't played the other DoD/Drakengard games didn't like DoD3 for numerous reasons so it's all down to personal preference. I know people that have played the first game that didn't like certain characters, but it's in part to how the game is handled - the series is known for multiple endings and how to obtain them being a pain in the backside often requiring weapon collecting and even then, certain endings may muck you up like the very last ending for NieR will actually delete your savegame on the PS3/360! I'd recommend playing the Gestalt/Western version of NieR instead of the Japanese RepliCant version so you play as Papa Nier instead of Brother Nier if you do play it and once you've gone through it - make a backup save if you go for all of the endings and story variations. This is literally how the game starts - Overture:

wow what a detailed reply! you seem to really like that series. It is good to see people who care about games and don`t trash them away after beating them. I honor and like to talk about any game i ever enjoyed.

I'm not specially interested in those vanilla type final fantasy characters. I have seen enough weird japanese stuff and have no problem with that kind. I even beat and enjoyed Corpse Party and Danganronpa. .... .....but i absolutely hate asocial xxxxxxx(censored) characters like Dito.
.... Spoiler Drakengard 3 follows.... for example
After Zero beats Five, Dito backstab Five and mutilated her corpse and later he talks about how awesome it was to cut her huge breasts into pieces. And he talks about how beautiful and cool he is and stuff like that..... Just disgusting this guy and you have to deal with him almost the whole story.
.... Spoiler ends .....
I cant watch the vids right know because of my connection, but i will watch them or start watching a let`s play to get a better impression.
ps. that thing with the save files is mean and original at the same time. Gladly i backup any save files on multiple sources.

This is a smaller box of stuff, but nowhere near everything: Not all of the characters are like that in the series, it's just the third game is intentionally over the top in ways as part of a shock attempt but there are some localization differences that I ought to write up a proper thing on at some stage. You aren't really supposed to like the characters in the series, Drakengard 3 in particular on that one. The entire universe setting is awful - gods that hate humanity and basically screw over humanity on purpose, it spills out to our own world too and the like. Nothing is really good or pure in the DoD universe, to be quite honest with you.

So, because of my study I am really busy right now, but i have started watching a Nier let's play while do study tasks. So far it is much better than Drakengard 3, the characters are fine and no one annoyed me so far. It is much more open world...ish than i thought and the whole first environments have a shadow of the Colossus feeling wich is great. Even the Shadow enemies looking somehow familiar with the SHADOWS.... of the Colossus, ....Pun! And the Music makes even the battles against the Hammelböcke (the sheeps) epic. I like all the small details so far, like the loading screen diary, the small Yonah animations or the 3d, 2d view feature when entering buildings. But the story seems to point in a sad direction, the whole situation with Yonah... I try to don`t get too attached to them, it will turn out bad.... it always does . She is so brave, wants to cure her disease so that she isn't a burden to her father. I think until the semester ends next month, i watch Nier as a lets play and if it isn`t get too depri than i play it by myself. thanks Overseer for remind me of Nier..... Oh and nice Collection, are there Artbooks too or Guides only?

Oh and nice Collection, are there Artbooks too or Guides only? Unfortunately to be the bearer of bad news, it is going to be depressing across the multiple story paths. I tend to prefer less happier plots, so it's out of personal preference on that one. I really enjoyed NieR though and the music across the game was very interesting! There are artbooks in that photo, there are actually more but that is one of the smaller boxes of my collection. Some of the artbooks also include guides in them too.

So you warned me but it wasn`t that depressing so far. I startet it now by myself, the father Nier one. ( a certain person was recently captured ) After i had started to watch Nier as Lets Play i dug out Drakengard 3, but i was instantly pissed off of Dito, so i chose to get Nier instead of playing Drakengard 3 again. Do you recommend any of the older games to be played too, or aren't they necessary or good? i don't care about graphics.

Drakengard 2 uses a different story bit (different directors) and it was more well received with being more like the typical RPG. The first Drakengard has the more unusual plot loops and is the one that directly leads to NieR as well. The game will get depressing particularly from it's second half, you'll eventually see what I mean.

Ahhh, sorry, I don't often keep track of the prices for Drag-on Dragoon/Drakengard in contrast to Clock Tower so I hadn't realized there was a massive price jump on the the original PS2 releases! There shouldn't be such a massive pricing on them, that's very odd.

The english version isn`t even listed.

If you look for the Japanese ones from say Amazon Japan, they both have Greatest Hits re-releases in Japan so they would be a little bit cheaper than the PAL ones.
