The year isn't over yet, but most of the major releases are out, with Battlefront, JC3 and Xenoblade X to come.
With that then, what are your top games of the year?
For me, it's been a very shitty year in terms of disappointments, so my list is sparse;
1) Undertale 2) Mad Max 3) Black Ops 3 (Yes, really) 4) Revelations 2 5) Shadowrun Hong Kong.

I've been avoiding this thread when it was created since there still was a chance that a game I really, really liked would pop up, but with four days of this year remaining I think the time has come to get this show on the road. As you'll see in a moment my list will be pretty unorthodox, but it's my list so there isn't much that you can do about it;). Ok, here we go.
First, the honorable mentions (in alphabetical order)
Assassins Creed 4 - if it wasn't for my best game this would easily be my favorite title of the year. The pinnacle of the series in terms of scope and gameplay variety. Sailing is a blast, easily the selling point of this game, new gameplay elements are introduced in the story missions which gives them context, the game can be challenging at times (something that previous AC games have rarely been) and the story while merely decent is filled with some wonderfully memorable characters with even the villains having their moments of sympathy in the end. Also the game is beautiful to look at (to bad that the optimisation is crap). Easy recommendation to anyone who likes these games.
Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time- The funniest game I played this year. Insomniac are near the top of their class when it comes to action platformers and along with Up Your Arsenal nowhere it's more evident than here. The levels are varied and colorful as well as the weapons. It expands on things that were used in previous entries as loading screens and is pure fun overall. Challenging when it needs to be but with a steady learning curve. Also some of the locations are the most beautiful I have ever seen. Great stuff.
Shadow Warrior Reboot- Flying Wild Hog is turnig up to be a prety good development studio. After Hard Reset it was pretty apparent to me that they have a knack for oldschool fps's and with SW they have shown what they're truly capable of. The gameplay is simple yet effective- there are no bullshit distractions between each battle which keeps the flow going and the pace consistent. Combat is visceral and varied with something for almost everyone, wether they like swordplay, shooting guns, or a combination of both. The fact that you can get through most of the game with the sword alone is a feat in itself especially for this kind of game. And on top of that the game looks great and runs amazingly. Some of the dynamic lighting effects are the best I've ever seen. Which isn't surprising since if there's anything that polish developers do exceptionally well in their games it's definately the graphics. I'll be playing the sequel for sure. Polska górą!
Valkyria Chronicles- Sega is slowly turning to be my favourite publisher. Never would I even dare to think that this game would be ported from the PS3, especialy to pc. That's either insane or evil genius level of balls that they've shown and I couldn't be more grateful for it. I'm not into turn based games (I pretty much detest them) but it was pretty easy to adapt to the turn based/real time tactics hybrid enough for me to find the engagements enjoyable an managable whithout Napoleon levels of tactical genius. But what won me over from the very get go was the presentatnion which is fantastic. The artstyle helped elevate the "merely" good enviroments and character models above anything offered by the hyper-realistic games today. It's amazing what you can acomplish with relatively simple assets when you have a clear artistic vision and is a proof that you don't need high polycounts and an abundance of special effects to look amazing. And the story's good- pretty lighthearted for the established setup but far from kawaii levels of cheese. The characters are likeable and fun and even the english dub is pretty decent- most of the time I didn't mind what was said and how it was said so I thnk that the cast has done their characters justice. A great surprise from Sega- now release Bayonetta and Vanquish on steam.
A couple of other good games worth mentioning I played this year: -Dead Space Extraction- a fun onrails shooter, being set in the Dead Space universe is never bad:), -DMC, a game by Ninja Theory- good game, better than 4, -Infamous 2- a vast improvement over 1, great sandbox superhero game, -Max Payne 3- a shame that Remedy didn't make it but still a good game, James McCaffrey is awesome, -Splinter Cell Blacklist- One of the best in the series, too bad Michael Ironside isn't voicing Sam, -The Swapper- good puzzle plaformer, looks great.
So with everything out of the way it's time for my best game of this year:
Dark Souls
Probably the best game I had the honor to play since the original Dead Space. And I don't even like fantasy. Having played Demons Souls a couple of months before (and not being exactly satisfied with my performance in that game) I was afraid that this game would overwhelm me, but to my surprise the difficulty was in the exact sweet spot for me to greatly enjoy the game despite the many deaths that have occured during my time with it. This game has the most astonishing worlds I've ever seen in any video game. How detailed and interconected everything is, you can see that much thought and care went into creating it. The improvements to the combat are so meaningful that they greatly widen the range of playstyles available AND viable. The poise stat alone (which is absent in Demons Souls) carried me almost through the entire game and made many encounters managable for me. It might seem that this makes the game easier for some but to me it just makes sense and makes it a little more accesible. Though very minimalistic the character interactions are probably some of the strongest I've ever encountered in any entertainment medium. Many times but a single line from a NPC has made me feel genuinely sad for it. Rarely has a video game engaged me in such a way that I felt such deep emotions toward a digital character. And the bosses- what great satisfaction comes from overcoming the obstacles. Their designs are both elegant and horryfing. They feel like a part of the world the inhabit. And in most ocasions there is plenty of room to simply avoid and study their attacks (first Capra Demon- you can go to hell, though). This game is pure beauty, an artistic and techical marvel. It took me entirely by surprise, because I didn't even imagine I would've had this much fun with it. To put it simply, the best game I played in the passing year 2015.
As you probably noticed none of these games were released in 2015. I believe that I only played one game from this year and what's ironic it's the worst game I played during the last 12 months (thanks, Capcom, you always find ways to make me cynical about your products- fortunatelly RE0 is just around the corner and doesn't look half assed). Other than that this year was goooooooooood. I wonder what 2016 has in store:)

VC on PC was an unexpected highlight for me. My only gripe was the last scenario (with that awful scene outside the shagohod) but it wasn't bad enough to ruin the ENTIRE game.
Would definitely recommend 9/10.

I enjoyed Life is Strange, it had a lot of good elements, some others kinda pulled off not so well. Currently slowly getting into Undertale. I'm always a year or so behind current titles anyway.

Funnily enough, I consider LiS to be THE WORST game I've played this year.

@commambershep yeah I found many aspects that I didn't like, so I can see why its not everyone's cup of tea.
I however did find myself getting really immersed with it and I loved some of the murder mystery stuff. I enjoy that Dontnod Entertainment is trying different genres at least, and they have decent writers trying to tackle adult themes.

its time
5: Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition. I mean come on. It's the same deal, but now even better.
4: Monster Hunter 4: Ultimate I mean what can be better than gathering your bros to embark on adventure full of terrifying monstrosities and silly weapons doing serious damage. Be it mountainside of active volcano where dying of heat you are trying to not die of godzilla lazers flying at you from all directions or be it a glacier in frozen sea where you fight for survival against giant walking sharks, your bros are always behind your back ready to support you with artillery and steel. Best feel.
3: Persona 4: Dancing All Night CAN YOU IMAGINE THE STEP, ITS GENIUS Looking back at wherever you like the game or not, it depends on how much fun you had. And this shit is fun as fuck.
2: Dying Light This came out out of nowhere and hit hard. Despite being an encyclopedia of elements ripped of from other games, this game combined them into one beautifully, making gameplay enganging for lots and lots of hours. With no intention to pandering to casuals, this game gives you a feel of just how hard can one get fucked during zombie infestation. Do you decide to scavenge and be geared well enough to stand your ground? Or do you rely on your speed and luck, running through the night with footsteps behind you getting closer by the second? One way or another, you gotta survive that shit.
1: Way of the Samurai
You are probably looking for an explanation. Wish I could give you one.
I cant, this game just pulls all the right autism strings inside my brain for me to love it.
Cant help it
1: Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- I love fighting games, and this one was one of the funnest I ever played. Great graphics, incredibly enjoyable gameplay and amazing soundtrack. All you need for a good time. Coherent story mode came is as a nice bonus.
Honorable mentions: Final Fantasy XV Episode Duscae Until Dawn Mortal Kombat X
