I love the Sims as well, playing it since the first game. However, I was already done with Sims 4 when they took out the toddlers and basically only had 2-3 life stages while the previous games had 7. But to tell the truth, I really do like way the game looks especially the male sims (that I can create) though the grass does looks bad. Anyways, there are a number of things that have been removed from the Sims 4 that was in the previous games' base; I would say wait it out. Wait till the price drops, decent official content to comes out (though EA will probably want you to pay an arm & leg for very little content) or mods and custom content. For now, I won't be buy this game.

I myself would stick with Sims 3 content wise, but people are enjoying it somewhat. Its all a matter of how you feel when playing I suppose, but, if you do buy it, Sims 4 can be refunded atm if you don't like it, so there is that.

My SO has the game and I let her play on my PC.
GTX570, i5 2400k, 128Gb SSD.
Game runs well, and my SO has been really, really enjoying it. The creation tools are great, and the gallery to download others houses, rooms, and characters is absolutely phenomenal. Some people complain about the load times but I can't really speak to that because on the SSD the load times are about ~6 seconds which feels plenty zippy while you're playing.
Based on her recommendation, it's totally a game worth playing.
If you do decide to get it, you can use a proxy to have Origin think you're buying from Mexico and get the game for $35 USD instead of the typical $60.

I used the proxy long time ago when i bought BF3 from "India" lol. I guess the shit still works. In my opinion Sims 3 is way better.
