So, GFWL shutdown is only one month away now (July 1st is the rumoured date).
This means the following functionality will go away: - Online play - Creating online accounts (I'm not sure how feasible it'll be to move online accounts between PCs) - Leaderboards - Patching (although RE5 never got a patch anyway)
What will remain possible: - Creating offline accounts - LAN play
Using Hamachi will become the only option for doing online play. GFWL has a ping limit so that'll have to be cracked (I think people have already removed this limit, but I don't know of any easy to use tools for it).
Some companies have been replacing GFWL with Steamworks in their games, but Capcom hasn't done this with any game and they haven't announced anything. So I'm assuming they will do nothing and leave their games behind. Other Capcom games using GFWL include RE: ORC, every SF4 release, Lost Planet 1: Colonies and Lost Planet 2.
The timing of this sucks quite a bit as we've been having a resurgence of RE5 modding lately thanks to aman.

You don't think they'll announce something in June?

PEOPLE.....Don't go to "Hamachi"
COME PLAY RE5 WITH THE "TUNNGLE" COMMUNITY! (Online Lan capable Co-op and Versus)
I've been meaning to make a thread after the GFWL officially shuts down.......to increase the community and with the interest of people not having to pay for the game again for Steam and something simple but convenient.
Upon request I will make a tutorial on how to set up after the shutdown (A lot of tutorials suck)..........maybe before if I get requested and I have the flexibility.
I just started playing RE5 on pc for the first time and I'm on Tunngle (I've always been around but not through playing or modding because I never had the pc capable but things change when the modding gets fierce)

You don't think they'll announce something in June? It's possible, but I doubt it. One problem is that they don't have an obvious team to fix this. The original RE5 PC team is probably scattered between various projects, or working on RE7. Maybe they got QLOC to do it, but I think it's more likely they're working on a bigger project than adding steamworks to a game. It's a shame when it comes to other games too. It's not a very popular game, but I liked Lost Planet 2 and there's definitely no chance that'll ever get fixed since it wasn't a success on any platform.

Ah, I understand. I was hoping they had QLOC port the Gold Edition content to PC and integrate it with Steamworks like you had mentioned... I guess we will just have to wait and see.

I was hoping that as well, but I'd have expected them to announce something by now. Am I speaking gibberish? You guys wanna play online with each other and what not.....right? Don't be rude. I'm sure shcloutier read your post. Either way, it would be ideal that an official solution be implemented. Steamworks would be much more user-friendly than hamachi or tunngle, and it would mean leaderboards would work too.

How was I rude exactly? by the post you quoted from me or my first post. I didn't make any claims or accusations on any of you dudes. Just presenting a solution as you say and making sure I know where the concern is.
Oh and yes, of course everyone would want an official solution..........but in the case of an unofficial solution, I feel that the majority would be more pleased with Tunngle.....thats just my opinion though.
Tunngle is more user friendly than Hamachi.......It's not a hassle to get (And I initially feared that it was).
It beats paying for the game again on Steamworks.
Now Leaderboards is something I can't speak for if you care about that. Then purchasing the game (again) on steamworks is your way to go

If they convert it to steamworks, it's not certain you'd have to pay for it again. Warner Bros let users redeem GFWL keys on steam to activate Batman: Arkham Asylum and Arkham City, and Capcom recently did the same thing with Street Fighter 4: AE.

Fight for what you guys want. you got my support Until then, feel free to come to Tunngle when GFWL goes down.

I think they will have to think of something. Remove from game sales? Place a warning on their products? I mean, imagine that a person does not follow the series and does not know what GFWL closed. He comes into the store, saw the game and that it can play co-op with a friend and just so decides to buy this game. He comes home and realizes that it is impossible to make an official way.
This kind of consumer fraud, to pay for what is not in the game, so it may be a lot of complaints from new customers!

This is somewhat related to your concern: A friend of mine that lives in Greece told me that she can't view RE5's store page on Steam anymore. I've heard that they're pulling the game off the Steam Store for some countries but I can still buy it on mine (USA). The fact that they're pulling down the current release of RE5 PC from some countries leads me to believe that Capcom has something planned... But this is just speculation on my part

Of course I'm very upset if they simply outsource the game in Steam without any DLC, but on the other hand, it would be better than just throw it.
