I think RichardHafer was right. If you don't like the mod, just give us feedback on how to improve on it. When I was making Super Salvador's sounds, I got a lot of helpful feedback from Huskya (love you btw Huskya <3 you're awesome). The sounds were indeed too loud, so I lowered the pitch, and it came out a lot better. Now his chainsaw SFX don't override his voice. Plus you can hear his chainsaw as he walks around on top of ship deck in Mercenaries. Cixon was another user who helped me tremendously with character melees, and how to improve on them.
So when we put out work that takes more than several dozen hours, and people just download it without leaving any constructive feedback, that drive to put out mods dies over time. I get people really want to download extra content for their games to enjoy, but this isn't free DLC people. We work on them because we love that community. Not because we're being paid (unless it's a commission, but that's a separate thing altogether). And when that lack of appreciation shows from the community, we slowly start to harden our stances towards public downloads, which is why izacky, zakizakizaki, myself, and others have pulled our content from the public. It doesn't mean you can't download them, but you have to convince us as to why we should share that content.
There's also the issue of redistribution without the original author's consent, which is another reason why several of us have removed content. All in all, the ratio of downloads to users expressing their thanks/appreciation for the work is basically in the shitter. It makes us feel like crap just waiting to be flushed. Please, if you do download something, just leave any sort of feedback. It could be how to make a mod better, how much you enjoyed it, etc. Users like albertwhisker007 are truly appreciated among the modders just for being kind and expressing their appreciation.
