Today, during the Resident Evil Showcase, they confirmed the timeline of the series will be after the events of Resident Evil 4. They also referred to it being a film, which seems to suggest they broke it up, so it takes the form of a mini series (if so, maybe after all parts have aired, they will release a version of it to watch in it's entirety).

I dislike how they keep throwing new storylines in the middle of an already filled gap, like for instance, there's "Revelations" set after "RE4" and before "RE5", and "Degeneration" takes place after RE4 as well and before "REV", is this going to be before or after "REV" now? the timeline is becoming very confusing especially since they forget storylines from specific games/movies (they better not ignore Degeneration and Rev as they are set between RE4 and RE5...)
So it should be either one of these:
1) RE4 -> Infinite Darkness -> RE5 (Typical CAPCOM shit move; ignoring Degeneration and Revelations) 2) RE4 -> DEGENERATION -> REV -> Infinite Darkness -> RE5 (Very likely) 3) RE4 -> DEGENERATION -> Infinite Darkness -> REV -> RE5 (Likely) 4) RE4 -> Infinite Darkness -> DEGENERATION -> REV -> RE5 (Most unlikely since in Degeneration I think a claim is made that they haven't met since Raccoon)
Swap "Revelations with Degeneration" as you wish, as CAPCOM didn't state when exactly in 2005 is Revelations set.

I just want to say that even though ı'm excited for infinite darkness; ı dont like the decision that it's set after re4. I wished it was set between re6 and re7. I dont think they will be able to explore the family due to this. Also ı hope they will tell us the year the movie takes place; ı mean the year vendetta takes place is unknown other than " It's set between re6 and re7. " .

Maybe they want to explore more Wesker's moments?, or those time of Ada working with the villain? (After RE4 I imagined many more escenarios for Ada, but in RE5 they just declared that Ada stopped her bussiness with Wesker after RE4. :S )
I am not bothered by the past date of the story events, it can be weird be back to the 2000s, but I prefer that, than keep ageing characters in real time jumping. I prefer don't overthink the date and just enjoy the story. Plus between RE4 and RE5, many things may have happened.

I am looking forward to this film ("series"), hopefully since the timelines are so close to each other, and that they left the ending of Degeneration open with many unanswered questions, that it will be a direct sequel to that film.

Set a few years after Resident Evil 4, the newly-released official synopsis goes into further details:“In 2006, there were traces of improper access to secret Presidential files found in the White House’s network. American federal agent Leon S. Kennedy is among the group invited to the White House to investigate this incident, but when the lights suddenly go out, Leon and the SWAT team are forced to take down a horde of mysterious zombies.
“Meanwhile, TerraSave staff member Claire Redfield encounters a mysterious image drawn by a youth in a country she visited, while providing support to refugees. Haunted by this drawing, which appears to be of a victim of viral infection, Claire starts her own investigation.
“The next morning, Claire visits the White House to request the construction of a welfare facility. There, she has a chance reunion with Leon and uses the opportunity to show him the boy’s drawing. Leon seems to realize some sort of connection between the zombie outbreak at the White House and the strange drawing, but he tells Claire that there is no relation and leaves. In time, these two zombie outbreaks in distant countries lead to events that shake the nation to its very core.”Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness is bringing back the RE2 remake’s Nick Apostolides as Leon Kennedy and Stephanie Panisello as Claire Redfield.

I don't think they want to cross the RE Village date and release everything at once. And in September coming out the movie reboot, so this will be a good window for them between these releases or before.
