Hi all,
I'm a total noob in 3d modeling since all I did was create a few simple models for quake 2 in some ancient tool 20 years ago.
I decided to learn 3ds max just so I can make a re 2 remake mod to replace mr. X with the Hector robot from Saturn 3. I already found some hints here on how to export the paks and start editing the models.
I was watching a youtube tutorial and here the guy says that those nodes are joints/bones and that we should not change those. My question is, can I make a total replacement model for mr. X along with the joints and the animations, or I can only change the existing one? If i can't make a total replacement i will not even start because Hector is a robot so he won't be moving the same as a human.
Thanks all.

Unfortunately you are right. All we can do is model replacement. We can't make new skeleton and animations which moves like a robot.
