There was a fix for removing the black bars on aspect ratios that are less wider than 16:9 [like 4:3 and 16:!0]. This was the fix
However with the latest update, the fix doesn't work anymore. Probably because the hex values has been changed.
Unlike many other games, simply replacing 16:9 FOV hex value [39 8E E3 3F] doesn't do anything in this game. Here's what was changed to remove black bars on the old exe:
However, this changed hex value can't be found in the new updated exe file. I even tried to manually hexedit the new exe and even tried changing hex values that were similar to the old ones. But nothing changed ingame and sometimes resulted in crash/hardlock etc.
I was able to make some progress with cheat engine though. But the progress was very limited and I had to run the game in borderless mode to be able the make the change and the result wasn't satisfactory either:
Notice how the game did change the aspect ratio to 4:3, but the black bars were still there. So it wouldn't be usable on 4:3 monitor anyway since the game would run at 4:3 FOV but then squish back to 16:9 letterboxed. Same goes with 16:10.
So not much of a progress. But it's something. The mem address of cheat engine "16506A74" isn't present when viewing the game with regular hex editor either.
This here is the fix for aspect ratios wider than 16:9 [like 21:9 and 32:9] which uses 3DMigoto and still works since it's not a hexedit solution.
But it doesn't remove black bars on top and bottom. It only removes black bars from the sides. So this doesn't work for 4:3 and 16:10.
But maybe it's possible to modify the ini file of this fix which would allow us to get proper 16:10 and 4:3.
This is the goal I'm trying to achieve now:
1. Crop the game on 16:10 and 4:3 horizontally to zoom and fit in those aspect ratios. That would result in forizontal FOV being cut [like how 4:3 games work anyway] but would also mean that we have to fix the UI to fit in 4:3 and 16:10 without cropping the UI.
2. Or we could just remove the letterbox [black bars on top and bottom] which wouldn't require any fix for the UI at all while it would also add extra vertical FOV on 16:10 and 4:3 aspect ratios. which would be much better.
And I'm trying to fix it for both gameplay and cutscenes. I hate black bars on cutscenes as well. In this case, goal no:1 would be easier theoretically for both cutscenes and gameplay.
If anyone here knows how to find the hex values for removing black bars, please let me know. Thanks in advance.
