So after having put just about 90 hours into the game, as well S+ ranking all of the scenarios, I find the difficulties in this game to be lacking. On the surface, Standard is far too easy and Hardcore is only artificially difficult at first and soon becomes just as easy as Standard. I think this game would benefit greatly from a system that allows players to customize their experience to create a more enjoyable and customizable game. I wanted to hear other people's thoughts and collect them so that hopefully someone will be inspired to make this a possibility. At the very least, we can enjoy the dream.
Here is how I would do it. When choosing a scenario, the three standard options would appear. After completing Hardcore difficulty, the player unlocks "Custom Horror" and are given the following options. For me, I would basically enjoy an experience where both the player and zombies have very limited health, and ammo is more scarce than Hardcore currently is. This would actually reward skillful and zombie headshots rather than just knee-capping everything. It would also make bosses more challenging. Players would also be able to save up to 3 pre-set combinations that could be quickly selected at will.
Enemy Damage (how much enemy attacks do to the player): Minor, Moderate, Major, Fatal (1-hit kill mode)
Player Gun Damage (how much damage you do): Reduced, Normal, Enhanced (which equates to roughly Assisted to Hardcore)
Player Knife Damage: (how much damage the knife does, basically fixes the FPS-based knife damage) Reduced (30 fps), Normal (60fps), High (120 fps)
Ammo Scarcity (how much ammo appears): Bare Bones (less than Hardcore), Scare (hardcore), Standard, Plentiful
Health Scarcity (how much health appears): Bare Bones (less than Hardcore), Scare (hardcore), Standard, Plentiful
Saving Method: Ink Ribbons disabled, auto-saves enabled. Ink Ribbons enabled, and only 3. Ink Ribbons enabled (current hardcore), Iron Man
Puzzles: Disabled, Enabled (skips certain puzzles, namely the Circuit and Herbicide Puzzles)
Cutscenes: Enabled, Disabled (auto skips any non-gameplay)
Partner Play: Disabled or Enabled (referring to Ada and Sherry. You can turn these sections off, but with a permanent +5 minutes added to your time)
Headshot Bonus Damage: Disabled or Enabled (2.0x bonus damage for headshots to Zombies/Lickers)
Critical Headshot Chance: Disabled, Low, Moderate, High, Always
Mr. X Behavior: Handicapped (less able to track you, slower to get to you), Standard, Enhanced (more easily able to track you, running draws his attention)
My ideal combination would be: Major Enemy Damage, Enhanced Gun Damage, Reduced Knife Damage, Bare Bones Ammo Scarcity, Bare Bones Health Scarcity, 3 saves, Puzzles disabled, cutscenes disabled, Partner Play disabled, Headshot Bonus Damage enabled, Critical Headshot chance Moderate, Mr. X Behavior standard.
