What is REupscale project?
REupscale project is a mod that upscales and corrects, using Topaz’s A.I. Gigapixel, the background textures of Resident Evil HD Remaster. The textures are the kept at the same original resolution (1920x1440) but they are obtained by downsampling images twice the resolution. Some textures use the Gamecube original source while others are upscaled from the HD Remastered texture.
Status of the Mod
The mod is complete, therefore, the whole game is fully playable from start to finish, but I can't guarantee that it's a bug-free experience. So far, I have completed a run with Jill and I'm in the middle of one with Chris and I have yet to find any bug that wasn't present in the original game.
Contents of the Mod
The release contains more than 1600 replaced textures, between gameplay and cutscenes. However, not all the textures have been upscaled, the rooms that Capcom redid as 3D rendered rooms have not been modified.

Hello there! I wanted to post here because this is quite a funny thing to post about: residentevilmodding.boards.net/thread/9965/true-remaster-mod-help-needed?page=1Looks like we were doing the same thing (or should I say, I was trying lol), but you beat me to it, still I didn't even started to work on the replacement themselves and was just starting to figure out the modding process. I have to ask you though, how did you made this mod? Did you replaced each texture by hand or did you find a faster way to do it? How long did it take you? What settings did you used in Gigapixel? Did you find a way to eliminate the smudging effect that upscaling creates on certain surfaces? Thanks for making this, I'll try it as soon as I can ! Edit: now you just need to do 1600+ replacements for RE0 too lol

Did you find a way to eliminate the smudging effect that upscaling creates on certain surfaces? Thanks for making this, I'll try it as soon as I can ! Edit: now you just need to do 1600+ replacements for RE0 too lol The textures: Unfortunately, yes, I had to replace each texture by hand, but I used some Photoshop macros to make things a bit faster. Despite that I ended up editing and tweaking some textures (like the fireplace) with my graphic tablet because I didn't like the results I was getting from the upscales of the Gamecube and the HD Remaster textures. The time: It took me about a month but after learning how to correctly replace the backgrounds, the bulk of the work was done in three weeks, including the in-game testing. The settings: Default settings without noise and blur reduction and 6x scaling. The smudging effect: There's not much you can do other than disabling the blur and noise reductions of Gigapixel. However, it is mostly alleviated when you insert the texture in the .DDS as it adopts its colour profile and those blurry parts of the texture become darker. That combined with a 2% of noise added to the textures and the post-processing of the game makes it almost unnoticeable in most cases. I hope this answers your questions And to the rest, I hope you enjoy the mod and please report any issue you encounter so I can take a look and try to fix it .

Thank you, that explains why when you look at the remastered's textures they look so smudgy (specially the Aqua Ring textures), while in game they look relatively better; posting this section of the game as a showcase video was a nice choice, and I must also say that it looks really fucking good! I just started replaying the game so I'll have the opportunity to go into pretty much most of the room/events and see if there are any problems.
My internet is slow as hell, it's max speed is like 1.5 Mbps, so I'll leave the mod downloading throughout the night and play the game in the free time of my weekend, is there any place where I can leave a review? Like ModDB or something like that.

This looks amazing! Thanks! You must be very proud of your work. People here are going to love the fact that a fan modder made a better remaster of their remaster lol The file size is HUGE! Understandable. I will enjoy this very much, thanks again!!!

This is beautiful. How exactly was it made? I'm not sure I understand. How did you add back in more information that just wasn't there from the original backgrounds?

This is beautiful. How exactly was it made? I'm not sure I understand. How did you add back in more information that just wasn't there from the original backgrounds? I used A.I. Gigapixel, but basically this, and other methods like ESRGAN, relay on AI Neural Networks to upscale the images by using a library of images as reference. That’s the gist of it, more or less, I’m sure you can find more compelling info about this method that what I can really explain somewhere else .

This is fantastic!!! Honestly, the environment look near perfect now. This is exactly what we needed. Thank you very much for making and sharing this mod shiryu. I've visited each room of the lab and the mansion and this is crazy how much of an improvement this is. I haven't seen any glitch btw even though I haven't visited the residence and the surrounding areas. I plan on playing the entire game again with this mod asap. We can't thank you enough for this!
