Out of curiosity I wanted to see within the community what Resident Evil game got you into the series as a whole?
I myself first played Resident Evil 2 when I was 8 years old, I was to young to really appreciate how great the game was and thus never really got into the series, years later I played Resident Evil 4 on the gamecube and fell in love with the series and simply had to go back and get more, afterwards I played the classic titles and gained a new appreciation for them especially Code Veronica which is now my favorite Resident Evil game period.

2. My cousin had a PSX, and he got the game. I had never heard about RE up untill that moment. We played the heck of it and the initial cutscene made lose my sleep for a week. After that, i played 3 and never stopped playing.

RE1 by my side, there i fell in love with the series, the original voice acting made me feel like if jill was really confused by the things that were happening, but she didn't gave up and she kept fighting until she saved Chris and defeated the tyrant to escape, at that time i was like 6 years old, i have very blurry memories but the graphics for me weren't an issue, i have some kind of "special" memories of seeing my brother and his friend playing on the laboratory, i guess thats why i like the remake so much.
for me, was really special seeing a woman (jill) do those kind of heroic stuff at such a young age (me 6, she 18), and all this without getting into the extremely fiction stuff like my other female heroes like chun-li, of course capcom changed this with the years and turned jill into the perfect soldier along with leon, ada, chris, claire, etc etc etc.
then i went into re2, where claire got the protagonism for me, i really like to think that she did the b side, of course this isn't cannon but i like the idea of her fighting mr x during her time in raccoon's incident, and then 3, where Catherine Disher made an amazing job making jill's voice, and re3 was the first one that i actually played, i was "too young" for those games, that's what my brothers used to say xD

Resident Evil 4 because it was the second game I ever played, like the actual second game i played in my life at 4 years old. The first was Gauntlet: Dark Legacy at 3 years old but i doubt anyone knows what that is. Its by midway. Also what helped me play re4 is that my dad already played it with all the special weapons unlocked so i always played that save and used the special weapons all the time.

I played most of the resident evil but since I was young I couldn't really such games, then comes re4 which caught surprise because it was the all the elements of horror that I love. Sometimes it was tense enough to make me sweat, especially the regenerator and chainsaw events

Resident Evil 4 from the PS2. mainly its due to i didn't reach when PS1 is kicking.and so does the classic RE's.i did try to play classic's via emulation.and owning now the remaster re1 for PC/PS3.but still.i can't get into because of camera.that's why im more on favor to have the over the shoulder camera than fix.(i will only like a game with fixunless its a hack & slash like the classic GOW's and DMC's).its nice to remember when did i start from this series.i was blown away from the graphics of RE4.and the worst feel meeting the chainsaw man (Dr. salvador) for the first time. its still my worst fear until now haha.played RE4/5/6/REV and a few hours of REHD,REV2 and RE0.i must say that RE4 is also my favorite game of all time.and the last of us is the second.(cause it has the RE4 vibe.imo)

Resi 1 on PSX was my first...
I remember seeing the Saturn version of RE1 at Blockbuster every weekend when I was kid. I thought the boxart looked so kool, but I only had Nintendo systems then. That christmas - or perhaps the next - my brother and I both got PSXs(my dad only meant to buy one for us to share but ordered 2 by mistake, hehe).
Needless to say I saved up my allowance and got a copy of Resi 1 for PSX. RE2 was already out by then(my cousin later stole a copy from her boyfriend after they broke-up and gave to it me for my birthday). And a little while later, RE3 and Dino Crisis both where out so I got both.
I have to say Resi 3 is easily my favorite of the series. Playing through Resi 3 for the first time was a really tense experience - never knowing when Nemesis might come walking around a corner.
Edit: I just read some posts in this thread... I guessing I'm in the minority in that I actually like the camera views. Also, I didn't realize the classic Resi games had terrible controls until I read it in a review of Resi 4, lol.

My very first game i ever remember playing in the resident evil series is the Gamecube remake. When i was still young at the time that game scared the living hell out of me. Though i never actually finished it at the time this is the first game, that i loved and still do to this day, RE0 was my second game and never fully finished and appreciate it. it wasn't until 4 that I fully appreciated the Resident Evil series.
With Code veronica being the 4 game i truly loved in the seires but didn't appreciate as much as the remake but it was still freaking awesome, thanks for the guide IGN. (Screw Veronica, the final boss, I had a lot of ammo but had like no health when when i fought and finished the game. The boss literally killed me xD)
Anyway The remake was simply outstanding, if it wasn't for my brother, and my mom at the time, i could've completely avoided the series and for that, im happy, and RE5 was awesome too and and is in my top 3 games with the remake. But It sad though that CAPCOM has been driven away from the concepts that made the series popular in the first place.
So with that all being said, I'm grateful. I would like to thank my family for getting me into the series. Im glad that people like this exists on this forum.

The first Resident Evil game I played was RE4, but it wasn't the one that got me into the series. I remember watching my brother play Resident Evil 2 in the PSX when I was around 7 years old. Good memories, I must say!
I played RE2 by myself not so long ago, to be honest. Probably around three years ago or so. It quickly became my favorite Resident Evil game, along with RE4. Nothing compares to the feeling of experiencing these games for the first time.
After RE2 I played the third one and loved it as well. I'm not a fan of REmake and Zero though, but I do love the ones from the original trilogy. Resident Evil has been a big part of my life ever since I can remember!
