Some of the older 2007 models that I have downloaded online and wish to port to the new UHD steam version of Resident Evil 4 have different file organization. The mod I am working on came with 4 main separate folders: Krauser folder ADA folder Voices folder Exploding effect folder I will concentrate on the first two folders \2007MODEL\Krauser\em\ pl0a.dat wep28.dat wep36.dat wep42.dat
\2007MODEL\Krauser\ogg (bunch off .ogg files).. I will irgnore this folder for now since it is dealing with sound only. \2007MODEL\Krauser\xfile\em\pl0a\ 0target0df0.tgaada_te.tga(and more tga files)pl0a0a.pmd pl0a0ab.pmdpl0a0e.pmdpl0a0f.pmd(and more .pmd files)\2007MODEL\ADA_mod\xfile\em\plob\0target0df0.tga ada_te.tga(and more tga files)pl0b0a.pmdpl0b0b.pmdpl0b0c.pmdpl0b0d.pmd\2007MODEL\ADA_mod\xfile\em\ploc\0target0df0.tga ada_te.tga (and more tga files.. these are exactly the same files as in the \2007MODEL\Krauser\xfile\em\pl0a\ folder above) pl0c0a.pmd
\2007MODEL\ ADA_mod\xfile\em\pl16\ 0target0df0.tga ada_te.tga (and more tga files.. these are exactly the same files as in the \2007MODEL\Krauser\xfile\em\pl0a\ folder above) pl160a.pmd
\2007MODEL\ Exploding_Heart\etc\ core.dat\2007MODEL\ Voices_AshleyxAda\ogg\pl\ ada_breath01.ogg (and a whole bunch of other ada_sound files)
I have been able to convert SOME (not all) of the the .pmd files into .smd files and fix their skeletons in order to import them into Milkshape3D with the provided textures. The main model file that worked was pl0a0a.pmd. This file made the entire model, excpet for the hands which I have asked about in a separate thread.
I am now wondering about these other files. I know the .ogg files are for sound (i have asked about modding sound files in another thread), but what are the .dat files in the \2007MODEL\Krauser\em\ folder used for? The original 2007 model uses a different weapon (Bow & Arrow), so i am thinking the wep files are for that, but not sure about the rest. I was able to extract a BIN/TPL folder from the pl0a.dat
file, but can not recompile it. The HEX values simply do not match up and the BIN Generator returns the error: Invalid model.

hi dear Mr.Curious those *.dat files in /em folder are for animations including mocap data and syncs for characters edit: you can't unpack those files by that unpacker they have different structures there is another unpacker for those but you have to install java's runtime to use that and also a specific old version of that runtime api but you are not able to use any of them in uhd version different engine and different structure

seda, thanks for your reply. So, can you tell me then, it is only possible to convert the model, but not the animations? What about the wep.dat files? Just so you know, it is possible to port old mods from 2007 to UHD with Persia's toolset, but there is no mention of these files.. There must be a way to port all of this to UHD.
Also could you tell me the names of those older converter apps?
Thanks!

Thanks! no prob mate yeah you can convert models to uhd edition by Son of Persia's converter but there is a problem about costumed animations because as i already mentioned that, unfortunately uhd engine is using different structure for packing the files so actually animations data are same, and difference is just in offsets positions and the files head therefore it's not impossible but needs lots of hex editing to replace offsets and about wep.dat files those are animations files too, but just for weapons including positions, based on characters bones placement and all of other necessary data for weapons (reload anims and...) i will try to find and upload the tool for you but as i said before you need to install java runtime

Thank yo for providing these tools! I have installed the Java Runtime v6.1 successfully and renamed the .dat files to GCA, but am confused about the process. I can drag and drop dat files onto the gac datunpacker.exe and this converts to .gca. But then what? I messed around a bit and got different results.. I was able to get some BIN & TPL files (and FCV) from the dat files by dragging the .dat files onto the datextract.exe. This created a folder with all the BIN & TPL files inside, but when I tried to convert the BIN & TPL files with Persia's BIN extract tool to .SMD it says 'invalid model file 001_wep28.bin'. This is where I cant go any further.. I found THIS tutorial but i dont see anything about BIN & TPL files as this tutorial is for the old version of RE4. Isn't the idea that I need to conver .DAT-->BIN&TPL--->SMD files ? I have asked Son of Persia to help with this, but he only deals with normal model files, not these other .dat files. I really want to open these files =)

I really want to open these files =) Hi dear Mr.Curious there are 2 different dat compressing method in old re4 1- models and textures packs (including stages " st1,2,3,4,5 " .dat xfile.dat characters and enemies xscr.dat objects and textures ... and em.dat you can unpack all of them by gca unpacker but not by drag and drop method , it's a visual app so you should run it and by its menu unpack or repack the files but inside the em.dat there are again lots of new dat files including wep*.dat and pl*.dat files for these new dat files which you already have them you need to use datextract.exe in dos mod (recommended) or drag and drop then it will give you a folder including all of sequences and mocap data ( *.bin - *.seq - *.tpl ) those files are just binary and hex files about movements data and not any kind of object or 3d models so you can't convert them to anything else by bin generator ( different files different structures , just similar format names ) therefore if you want to replace any of animations in the uhd by one of costumed one from old re4 you have to go to em folder in re4uhd bio4/em and find the same name for example wep11.udas.lfs unpack it open the file with same name in a hexeditor find the correct offset of movement data replace it with the costumed one which you have inside the old re4 moded wep or pl .dat but you have to be very accurate, patient and careful but most important is patience because it's a practical process ( you're gonna see lots of game crash and force close!)
