Edit:
The mod is now complete, with modifications made to every scenario in the game, in the DLCs "Lost in Nightmares" and "Desperate Escape" and to the Mercenaries Mode. Optional downloads were included, such as Fixes, Backups and Swiftshader 2019.
First of all, this is my very first time posting on this forum (though I had browsed through its depths in the past), so I'm deeply sorry if I do something wrong. I have read the rules and stuff, but, as it is my first time, I might still make a mistake or two.
Now, a little explanation on "WHY THE HECK!?":
I'm from Brazil, and the situation here is not good (not just for gaming), which is what prompted me to end up with a PC whose GPU is an Intel GMA 3100.
Resident Evil 5 was on my "Must give a shot" list, thus I ended up doing just that, and, to my utmost surprise, the game actually works quite well whilst being emulated by Swiftshader. I mean, 10 FPS guys! 10 FPS!
When I tried emulating GTA SA with Swiftshader, I got 1 FPS.
Sob story aside, lets get to business:
Whilst browsing through this very same forum, I got the idea of trying to edit the game scenarios, and I found out that there are LOTS of "leftover" effects that will render regardless of how low you push the settings. Those include particles, dynamic lightning and etc...
I decided to give modding those files a shot (with the aid of the old Arc Tool, by echelon, I believe), and ended up managing to remove those things, and the results were quite astonishing, to the point that I don't really understand why Capcom didn't allow them to be removed in the first place, as they are greatly performance hungry.Other than the fact that they are not very worried about low-end users such as myself, of course.
I managed to modify a couple scenarios with success, but refrained from modifying the entire game at once, focusing on those that I had the most trouble with, mainly the ones housing QTE sequences, as they were impossible due to terrible framerates (The game wouldn't recognize my input at all. I even tried AutoHotkey).
I do plan on editing all the scenarios and cutscenes (as I managed to remove the effects from them as well) in the future, however.
I do realize that the targeting audience of this is minimum (except for countries such as Brazil), but this was something that actually helped me to finish the Gold Edition 100%, and that is saying something, so I was interested in sharing it anyways, as maybe someone out there could be in my shoes, too.
I have posted the file at Nexus, where I've added better details about the mod (such as which stages it affects and how), if you guys wanna check it out:
Stage FPS Optimization - For Low-End PCs
This is a comparison between 6-1's first stage (Ship Deck) with and without the mod.
Now, the very first thing you'll notice is that the light effects are gone, together with some extra details in the backgrounds(containers?).
What you don't notice, however, is that the wind, the fog and the image-filter are all gone, too.
Well, I believe that is all I had to say, other than "Thank you for your time!", of course.
I hope that I didn't break any rules by linking the images\files to Nexus. I'm not sure if that's a problem, as I have not read anything about it, but I'll remove it all if that's the case.
