This isn't really a tutorial, but I don't think it fits in any other section. And it also might not be anything new for some people, but I haven't found any mention in any of the texture editing threads.
The characters normally use 1024x1024 textures during gameplay, 2048x2048 during cutscenes, and it's possible to force it to use the higher resolution textures by putting them in the other folder, but editing the headers to allow for higher resolutions is not possible to my knowledge. However, in the game files there are a few sets of 4096x4096 textures ("sm33_019_out_XXXX.tex.10", for example), and it's possible to use those headers to make new 4096x4096 textures and make the game load them for characters/props/etc. There are also some sets of 4096x2048 textures ("sm60_015_crashheli01a_a_albm.tex.10"), and 2048x4096 ("sm33_001_patrolcar01a_f_XXXX.tex.10").
I have already used something similar to use higher resolutions in the police car textures and it works without issue. Although when doing this the final texture size (in bytes) will not be the same as the original texture, but they still work.

that's pretty useful, will be very good for weapon skins, since those are only 1024x1024 and 512x512 for low texture settings I did a quick test, upscaled the 'albm' texture to 4k and left the 'nrmr' texture at 1k, works like a charm
